This place is a nice place to visit and to learn about the Doukhobors who came to the Kootenays. You can have a small picnic with freinds at the benches as you walk the island and check out the points of intrest.

Worth the visit to go over the suspension bridge. Watch for kingfishers fishing and imagine what it was like when the first nations used to fish here. A cool old building and an interesting area.

It was early evening when we visited. It was a nice stroll where we saw ducks, kingfishers and other birds. A nice historical site, a little eerie though as we were the only ones around.

This former home of Mr. Zuckerberg (a Russian pioneer of Castlegar) built this home, as pictured, on a small island in the river going through Castlegar. You access the grounds by going over a foot bridge over the river. It's a quiet, interesting place.

Not only is the a living museum but the walk across the suspension bridge is a treat in itself. You can spend a couple of hours exploring the island.

It is its own Island in Castlegar but only takes about 15 minutes to walk around it. Ive spent many hours there and anyone who visits will surely love exploring it. It also has a line of longitude of magic that runs right through it....More
