Baker Street is nice, and there are many good shops, boutiques, and eateries. However, it is not exceptional and many small towns and cities are starting to 'do it better'. Nelson and Baker Street used to be the best around, but not anymore. Not saying it isn't great, but it no longer is stands out over other BC towns. They... More

Spending a couple hours strolling back and forth along Baker street is a must for anyone visiting Nelson. There are many great local businesses to explore.

2 days in Nelson in which we spent half our time on baker st. At first glance appears geared for youth but thus young senior bought 2 tops, 1 dress, gifts for friends, a baguette in french bakery just behind the street and had several meals as well as snacks.

Just come and walk the streets already! You may smell pot but you won't mind at all. Shops are full of cool, helpful, thankful and knowledgeable people who really appreciate your step in. Just be thankful that a town like this "does really still exist" in our magnificent country:)

Oh the architecture - you could get a sore neck looking up at all of the amazing architecture. Folks are nice, ton of food options and great stores. Give yourself at least a few hours to meander about and make the effort to venture a block or two off in either direction so you don't miss all the other spots.

We were in Nelson on a Wednesday and so the Nelson public market was set up on Baker Street. Artisan foods, crafts galore. The shopping on Baker Street covers about 5 or 6 blocks of funky shops and raditional ones sEllington just about everything you can imagine. Lots of good restaurants and benches for people watching.

Pack animals roam the street and some even try playing musical instruments. Worst street musicians in all of Canada - Europe to. Horribly overpriced art - by a long shot. Some of the shops do have some nice finds though. Would not go out of the way to visit Nelson unless you have a reason to be there. Nelson should... More

I'm not a shopper really and when I travel I expect to be amazed and/or at least find things that are different that I can't get at home. I didn't find the shops on Baker Street as wonderful as people made them out to be and for what it was, was expensive.
