I opted for a quite ambitious paddle southeastward out of Sidney, through the islands toward the international boundary, perhaps 15km each way. A long but very rewarding day with guide Nick, whom I found knows a lot (and is a good teacher) about wildlife, the sea, the ecology

I went Kyaking with Nick, the owner of a paddle in the park, in September, 2019. I am not an experienced kayaker so I was a bit nervous but Nick taught me some techniques, which gave me so much confidence on the water. I was blown away with his knowledge and respect for the

The Kayak tour was meant as a very special gift to my wife. But it turned out as a loss of a day. What happened? Or not: We had been on a trip around the world to celebrate our 40th anniversary of marriage: Germany - Canada - Australia - South Africa and back to Germany. I did

Response from Nick G, Owner at A Paddle in the Park
Responded Nov 12, 2019
Very sorry for this unfortunate mistake of mine which has caused Reiner such grief! Yes, I left on vacation at the end of September having no bookings in sight for that week. Having Changed the settings on the booking website (or so I thought) I left town. Everything indicated that such changes had been made. However, I started using the booking agent this season and had never disabled booking before so I must have done something wrong. You could imagine my regret at such a silly mistake when I got back from my trip and into cellular range. I turned on my phone to find several (understandably) frustrated voicemails and emails from Reiner and his friend Rob who had booked the tour and had no one arrive at the meeting point. I immediately got in touch with the two of them and offered my greatest apologies, a refund and financial compensation for their trouble. Reiner, being German and having already left the country accepted and gave me his banking info so I could compensate him. Although the refund for the tour was seamless, I was notified at the bank that international money transfers are costly and therefore would have cost Reiner more to receive my funds than he was due. I told him this in an email. He thanked me for my efforts and let it go. That was the last I heard from him. This instance was an unfortunate one and I did everything in my power to rectify it. Every mistake is a chance for learning and this one needs not happen again. As a tourism professional and business owner, making sure people go away with a positive experience is my first priority and I always do my best to make that happen.

Really fun experience! My wife and I did the 2 hour Swartz Bay kayak tour. We saw a lot of wildlife. Our guide, Nick, was very knowledgeable about the area and very friendly. The tour was well priced. I plan to do a longer tour next I’m in the area.

We weren’t sure if we could get in at the last minute but owner Nick was very accommodating and set us up with our guide Nolan. We were able to get a parking place but be aware that the put in location is “bare bones”-no amenities like bathrooms unless you walk to the ferry
