We biked the Georgian Trail between Collingwood and Thornbury, a round trip of approximately 40 kms.
It is a hard-packed gravelly surface that was once a rail line, and is virtually flat until the approach into Thornbury.
Never crowded, but always wide enough to accommodate bikers and walkers going in opposite directions.
Generally passing through forested areas and some agricultural and residential areas.
It makes for a relaxing ride if desired, or a speedy straightaway for the more energetic rider or runner.

What a treasure this walking trail is for Collingwood. It's an easy walk with beautiful views of the water and lots of birdlife. There are benches for sitting, and you can pick up a pocket guide of the trails in the area at several places along the trail route. A definite must if in the area!

The trails are beautiful for riding or walking. We stopped numerous times while allowing our dog a longer lead. it is a very relaxing way to experience the Georgian Bay shoreline from what was once a thriving ship building town. The town has over 60 km of interlinked trails and is a perfect way to spend an afternoon.

A former rail trail with the ability to ride from Stayner to Meaford. On top of that a plethora of side trails along the way if you want to go exploring.
Whether you're running, riding or hiking you'll enjoy this great way to enjoy the area.

The Georgian Trail runs from Collingwood to Meaford. A large portion of it is a repurposed rail line with various smaller hiking trails. If you want a challenging cardio trail, this ain't for you. If you want to enjoy nature, take your time, and peek at some very nice homes, this is your trail. Strongly recommend that you begin in Thornbury. There is a free parking lot right across from the municipal building. Park your car there. Makes sure you grab a sandwich from the Thornbury Bakery (trust me, this us your best bet) and take off to Meaford. It is about a 45 minute slow ride. Mostly level with one small hill at Lora Bay and a gradual decline into Meaford. Stop at Meaford and have your yummy Thornbury sandwiches. Eat next to the beautiful harbour. Then ride back to Thornbury. Meaford to Thornbury is an easier than Thornbury to Meaford due to the slight difference in incline.

I love rail trails with the lack of cars, width and nice foliage but I love changing scenery and waterfronts as well. Taking the rail trail to the Collingwood waterfront connected trails was a fabulous day trip for us. Bravo to the town and committees involved in developments that exist!

A group of us rode the trail from Collingwood to Meaford. Beautiful, well maintained trail with lots of shade, good vistas of mountins and lake, perfect for a hot day. Would love to bike it in the fall with all the colours

I was there two days ago, walking while my husband had a meeting with someone. I loved all the water by the sides of the trail; I suppose a lot of it would dry up later in the season. i saw my first frog and turtle of the year and the first daffodil, towards the end of the trail. I picked up one can, but it was fairly clear of litter. I found my walk to be quite an enjoyable interlude. I ran into a few friendly pedestrians and cyclists, but considering how good the weather was, I was surprised that the trail was not very busy at all. I thought there would be more outlets to streets, but I had to walk an hour and a half to get to one (which was fine and I am a slow walker) where my husband could meet me with the car.

We purchased a vacation property in Collingwood four years ago, and while we were aware that there were bike trails in the community we were not aware of the number and variety that existed. We cycle almost every day and just recently discovered a new trail that we had somehow overlooked. The cyclists and walkers we meet always say hi!, not the norm in the city. We have only taken the main Georgian trail as far as Thornbury but Meaford, 34 km away, is in our sights. Great experience for all ages. And if you want to cycle in the rain the limestone path makes it easy.

Yesof course! You can rent a bike at the Hotel itself. They accomodate their Customer very gently. My hotel was the Georgian Bay Hotel and conference center in Collingwood.
