More
Trethewey House Heritage Site is operated by Heritage Abbotsford Society, a registered charity. The Heritage Site consists of Trethewey House, Joey’s Playhouse, the Upper Sumas Train Station, Heritage Gallery, and the Sylvia Pincott Heritage Habitat Garden. Trethewey House was built in 1919-1920 by Joseph Ogle “J.O.” Trethewey. President of the Abbotsford Lumber Company, J.O. was responsible for leadership of the company during the company’s boom years in the 1920s. The House is built Craftsman-style and was constructed using primarily local materials, making it distinct from other buildings of similar age within the City of Abbotsford. Trethewey House contains old-growth Abbotsford fir lumber (processed at the Trethewey mill on Mill Lake), and brick and tile crafted from clay mined on Sumas Mountain (processed at Clayburn Village, B.C.’s first company town), representing two of Abbotsford’s most important early industries. Our house tour drop in hours are from 1-4pm, Monday-Friday.

Going through this property was like going back in time. It was a blast from the past. We had someone take us through and explain a lot about the house and the history of it. The grounds outside are gorgeous

A fantastic place to learn about the history of Abbotsford - the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the house itself has been beautifully preserved.

This place is great to visit any day of the year, but at Halloween they put on the great Hunted house for people to enjoy! Super creepy!

Lots of history. Some say the Trethewey House is haunted. They have seen on more than a few occasions a Woman upstairs staring out the window. Usually at mid evening just before dusk. The house sits on the park Mill Lake park. Beautiful photographs of...More
