While we waited for the over-priced and crowded Capilano Suspension bridge park to open, we found the Cleveland dam and trail heads. One of our most picturesque photo from our trip was taken here - and that's saying a lot for the Vancouver / B.C....More

This place between North Vancouver and Grouse Mountain is truly scenic. The Cleveland Dam makes a lake with the mountains towering over it. There is a well developed picnic spot where you can open your Picnic Hamper and enjoy the divine weather and your goodies....More

It’s a small park compare to British Columbia province park size - but very calm and beautiful. The park itself is very clean and has magnificent views of Grouse Mountainand Capilano lake

We stopped Cleveland Dam after visiting Lynn Canyon Park mid after which was only 10-15 minutes away. There were plenty of parking and it's free! You can see Grouse Mountain from the Cleveland Dam. We stopped by the salmon hatchery after. It's definitely worthing seeing!

If in North Van you must stop at Cleveland Dam. Finished in 1954 it contains the waters of the Capilano River creating Capilano lake, one of the lower mainlands drinking water reservoirs. It offers a great view of the reservoir and a spectacular view down...More

There is no construction on the dam, nor the park beside it. . . There might be some road work on the road that goes up to it, but it will allow traffic thru because it goes to major tourist attractions . . . well worth any... More

I believe there are some bus stops but I too had a rental car, it's literally 4 minutes from the bridge, but what a sight. I think a taxi can take you there, it's truly on the same road 4-5 minutes

Capilano Pacific Trail access question (5 Replies)
I'm considering walking part of the Capilano Pacific Trail after visiting the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park (early July). The website "Vancouver Trails" outlines two different walks: - Capilano Canyon hike - 1 hour roundtrip from Cleveland Dam; and - Capilano Pacific Trail from Ambelside to Cleveland Dam (2 hrs). I was thinking of doing the shorter canyon hike, but noticed that there appears to be some nice viewpoints along the Pacific Trail between the back of Capilano Suspension...More

Thanks. That map is very handy. So, if I entered from the Park Entrance, just north of CSBP, which trail would you suggest to take to the Pipeline Bridge - 4 Chinook or 5 Pipeline? Is one more scenic, or less strenuous than the other? From the bridge, I think I will head north and take the second left (not 1 trail), so that I can take the full 7 trail (I'm keen to see big trees) all the way to the Second Canyon viewpoint, back down along 8, over to the hatchery, up 9 to the dam. Then,...More

Bikes as main transportation in Vancouver (3 Replies)
Hello - my husband and I (fairly fit and active, ages 31 and 27) will be spending 4 days in Vancouver over Labor Day weekend. We are considering renting and using bikes as our main transportation. I have read about the great bike routes along the waterways and in Stanley Park, but what about throughout the city? For example, we are considering staying in an apartment off of Commercial Drive. Would it be feasible and safe to bike to Kitsilano Beach, Granville Island, or downtown/Stanley Park...More

Biking works. There are some bike lanes but often a block off a main street gets you safely out of traffic. Download a gps map for your phone and a compass app. Commercial Drive is easy while Cap Bridge/Cleave Dam is a bit of a workout. Bottom line is go for the bike.

Places to see in September Last week (5 Replies)
Looking at my plans, it seems like we'll have to make a visit to Vancouver in the last week of September. And we will have a day or two extra to roam around. What can we expect from Vancouver in September last week? We = My wife and I. Things we've already seen 1. Kitsilano beach park 2. Stanley Park 3. Aquarium in Stanley Park 5. Capilano Suspension Bridge 6. Cleveland Dam We are outdoorsy, love site-seeing, up for great nature views; do not want to 'hike' on this trip though. Do...More
