. . . Or so the tagline says. Anyway, it’s hard for me to believe it’s been 20 years since I stepped foot in this mall. My recent visit came more out of hope than anything else – I patronized Lansdowne specifically for the T&T Supermarket in hopes of finding the elusive Knorr Shrimp broth cubes (I’d been to 3 other T&T stores earlier in the day and came up empty-handed). Unfortunately, it was all for naught. There were no shrimp broth cubes to be had here, either; however, not wanting to waste an opportunity to explore, I decided to amble about the Lansdowne Shopping Centre and see what kind of treasures I might find.

Well, I didn’t really find anything of note, but walking the corridors of Lansdowne was certainly interesting. First, the mall’s large food court seems to be the proverbial social center. Many patrons were here enjoying a quick meal or just catching up with friends. The food offerings didn’t look too shabby and included the likes of KFC, Bubble Waffle Café, and the always-popular A&W. The mall’s long hallways shoot out from the food court in various directions.

While I wouldn’t exactly call Lansdowne a “ghost mall,” it is pretty close to being there given its size in relation to the level of foot traffic. Let’s put it this way: There’s no risk of feeling crowded here. The anchor tenants – and especially the aforementioned T&T – seem to be where all the action is. Perhaps this is why the mall is set to be “redeveloped” in the next few years?

Lansdowne Shopping Centre was set to be demolished in 2025, but I suspect that date will be pushed back by at least a few years due to the lovely COVID pandemic delays (we are still in a pandemic, after all, no matter how much we try to pretend otherwise). Now it seems the mall will be closed in a “phased approach” so as to give extended life to the various shops, restaurants and services contained within. I think that’s a fair approach, but we’ll see if it holds (Oakridge was supposed to do the same thing . . . but didn’t).

In any event, Lansdowne has been open for 46 years and, in its current form, certainly looks the part of a 1970s-era mall. Perhaps the upcoming redevelopment will be a good thing? After all, Richmond Centre and Aberdeen are but a stone’s throw away . . . and far superior in their offerings. . .

Very busy mall. A bit aging one with older Earl's location, good food court and lots of small shops. Tons of older people just walking the halls.

It was pretty run down for a few years but seems to have found it's niche. A mix of asian and middle of road stores with a few larger anchor tenants. It's improved and has something for everyone.

Yesterday was Easter Sunday (March 27, 2016) and because West Coast Amusements (carnival and rides) were onsite and it was a beautiful sunny day friends and neighbors decided to shop at Lansdowne Centre and bring the youngsters to enjoy the WCA's annual visit. Imagine our total surprise to discover that the entire mall was closed. Such an unprecedented action. We made numerous inquiries to all the malls in metro Vancouver and all were open for business as usual. Lansdowne has recently lost several of their big box tenants and if they continue with their unorthodox behavior they'll lose their patrons as well.

Older mall in richmond. Has some big stores (Toys R us, best buy, winners etc). Not why we come to richmond though. We stopped by for one game store and left. There are some newer stores at Central at Garden City.
