Enjoy the gardens, relax in the Kitchen Garden Cafe and visit the animals. The gardens are full of interesting features including colourful terraces and herbaceous borders, formal lawns, kitchen gardens, woodlands, meadows and ponds. There are impressive views too and you can buy some plants to take home with you. At the Kitchen Garden Cafe you can enjoy coffee, cakes, light lunches including pizzas and other hot food from the outdoor wood-fired oven. Homemade ice-creams and cordials are also on the menu. We grow and rear as much of our own produce as possible for Askham Hall Cafe and our pub and restaurant the George and Dragon in nearby Clfton. You can meet the animals too in our special animal viewing area - including rare-breed pigs, goats and shorthorn cattle and soon, free-range chickens and ducks. And children can also enjoy the outdoor play area.

What a stunning place! I can’t wait to return as this visit was a flying one. The staff were exceptional and we loved it!

Four of us can recommend the tearoom based on our first visit after mountain biking for over 6 hours across the fells on the hottest day of the year so far. Good food, helpful staff and a lovely setting.

Travelling through the picturesque village of Askham on a sunny day we saw a sign for the kitchen cafe and decided to stop off. Glad we did. The staff were very pleasant and the coffee and cakes excellent within a pleasant environment.

Really nice gardens and cafe. Food excellent. We sat down late for lunch in a Sunday but still good choice of well cooked food. Well priced but not cheap. Friendly staff. Use old stables which are very dark but quaint

We came here last year for the wedding reception and had drinks in the main house. Some very nice rooms, but wary about touching any knick knacks. Then walked through part of the garden to the barn to have the meal which was okay. Nice...More

We came to visit the Cafe based on a previous review mentioning vegan options. I have been a few times but not recently, and the only vegan option was soup. They did mention that this had been noted and hopefully they'll come up with some...More

Nice surroundings, lovely little quaint village roundabout. Close to Ullswater and Penrith and not far from the main towns of Keswick and Ambleside. A lovely afternoon tea and the prices were reasonable.

Yes, also if you wanted to stay at Askham hall they are allowed in the rooms, but you have to ask first. Two guests were visiting, staying over for 2 nights, with their two dogs as we visited.
