Worth A Visit, if you are looking for Fresh Seafood
My Uncle & I were visiting Auckland for the first time, we were on a free & easy holiday. We stayed at the Skycity Hotel and decided to take a stroll to the Auckland Fish Market for lunch on a Wednesday. The Auckland Fish Market is located in the Wynyard Quarter on the harbour front, it took us around 30 minutes to get there on foot. This place has 9 eateries and 1 fish monger. We ordered a lobster fried rice from Bang Bang Kitchen for NZD32.90 and 1 hot buttered lobster roll from Lobster & Tap for NZD31.90. The lobster fried rice was a huge portion, enough for 2 people, it was delicious and definitely worth the price! The hot buttered lobster roll was rather disappointing, it was smaller that we had expected and for most people, you would have it for an appetizer rather than a main course. Although it contained a fair bit of boiled lobster, we feel that it wasn't worth the price. The fish monger opens for business at 8am daily and closes at 5pm. The eateries open for business at 11am daily and close at 5pm Mondays to Wednesdays, 8pm on Thursdays, 10pm on Fridays & Saturdays, 6pm on Sundays. If you want to come here for a meal, please come early.

    Auckland Fish Market.
Auckland Fish market is situated in Wynyard enclave of Auckland and is a indoor-outdoor hub featuring stalls for fresh fish & counters serving informal seafood dishes. No fish smell and spotlessly clean market, akin to being in a fish anatomy. The Auckland Fish market was spotlessly clean and also had a large dining restaurant for visitors and guests which opened at 1100 hrs.Seems "Sanford and Sons" established in 1904 were the most prominent fish mongers in Auckland with their huge advertisement on a section of the building wall. Taste New Zealand's signature sea food " Fish and Finger chips" at their open air outdoors restaurant having a giant T.V screen usually screening live Rugby Matches.

Went for a meal on a very quiet Tuesday evening ( we were the only people there) and ended up leaving without eating. My wife and I ordered a fish meal each and after 30 minutes we had not received our meals. I went and asked what was happening , I was advised it would be ready in another 5 minutes. 10 minutes later still nothing. I went back to query the delay the lady said it was coming and apologised they were busy. I challenged this and requested our money back. She did resist this request and when I pointed out they were not busy she then told us the grill was causing problems. At that point I noticed the chef stabbing the salmon with his bare fingers to see if it was cooked. Clearly it wasn't and I again asked for our money back which was reluctantly given back.Should have let us know there was a a problem we would have ordered something else

I’ve have some disappointments when travelling, mainly expected, but this place takes first prize. I’m thinking that the fishmarket in Auckland would be up there with the one in Sydney. After all, New Zealand is surrounded by pristine water full of seafood. The choice of takeaway outlets were very limited and to my amazement a lot of the seafood was imported....and expensive.....prawns from Thailand at $74 a kilo !!
We had the hotpot greenlipped mussels which were covered in garlic ($15)and 150gms of grilled flounder fillets, still with the skin on also covered in garlic sauce, and chips ($19).....a little bit of garlic is fine and tasty but garlic overkill kept me up all night.
You could choose some fresh fish and then have it cooked for an extra $7 per 300gms
Sorry, I’ve had better at the average fish and chip takeaway in a small country town.

Love popping down here for a tasty lunch in their courtyard. Love the fresh mussels and all the options available to dine on. Also, the retail seafood is very well priced (cheaper than some supermarkets) and so much fresher. Highly recommended place for dining when exploring Silo Park and the Wynyard Quarter.

We ordered a sea food heven platter, the platter is not decent for the money we paid. It was filled with potato chips, not sea food.. see the photo, you can see sea food on the top but just on the top of the cone, the rest is potato chips.. I felt i was mislead as the person who served me said the platter is enough for two people , but its not enough even for one person unless you eat potato chips.

The fresh fillet of fish was presented with shoestring chips that were greasy and poorly presented in cardboard. The glass of wine was a small amount and expensive. The food hall was not impressive and overall disappointing experience and overrated. Not worth a visit.

We've visited a lot of seafood or fish markets in the world, this is the smallest one with the least selection. There are only two stalls selling fresh seafood - mainly pacific osyters and salmon sashimi - that you could consume on the spot, others are all restaurants. There are some steamed lobsters as well, but the price is outrageous. Fri Billy Pot is offering cooked mussels and prawns, taste so so. Car park across the road offering free one hour parking, and you wouldn't need more than that.

Hi there, a bit of warning from a regular (not anymore after today) client of Auckland Fish Market. I have been going there for last about 8 years on Saturdays to buy my fish because I like it fresh. However in the last three Saturdays the fish quality there plunged down (not fresh anymore) but I continued buying some just less and less until today, 20.04.2024. I asked a tall Asian assistant why the fish is not fresh any more for a month, he angrily replied that I should know that fish is not coming on the weekends to them.... It was a "good lesson for me" to learn that poor customer service or like in this case complete lack of it can put off even a loyal customer like me away. I have spent there thousands of dollars and most of them know me including this strange tall Asian looking guy who I just asked nicely to pass on my comment. Anyways, just a warning people, this place has 1 out of 5 for fish "freshness" in the last 1 months (unlike in the last 8 years on Saturdays has been consistently 5/5). And 0/5 for customer service from me today too, and sorry I will not come back there again. Cheers, Alex, 022 6490699

We stopped here for dinner last Friday evening. It is a nice space, with plenty of eating options. You can eat inside or out - but if you go outside, beware of the very cheeky sparrows who will try and snatch your dinner!
We had fish burger and chips from Billypot. It was very good and we enjoyed it. Well worth $15 for this meal.
We will return to the Fish Market for a meal when we next return to Auckland.
