Lovely village as well
Sep 2021
friendly helpful staff . Our rooms were comfortable and clean . Ate in the pub in the evening and enjoyed breakfast next day .

My only complaint is the £ 15 charged per night for a dog , my room wasn't as nice as my friends who didn't bring her dog .

A friend who is staying in a very upmarket hotel in Brixham has just told me she's paying £ 12 a night !

Shocked
Oct 2019 • Friends
I came in to meet my friend, was shocked at the service by the large woman over the bar, she seemed quite angry and annoyed, getting a drink was a struggle as she just seemed to be on her phone, appart from that the pub was brill, nice and warm

Lovely meal in this village pub. I asked for smaller portion of the steak pie I ordered. It was no problem and it was a very nice dinner. Great chips.

Early evening meal

Second visit in two days and enjoyable both times. John is a good landlord and his beers, wines and pub food are very good.
Good atmosphere and the girls serving are very efficient and helpful. Best to book as very popular locally. Curries, chilli con carne and scampi very nice. Good selection of puddings.
Prices are middle of the road. Worth visiting.

Wine Tour in next village
Dec 2018 • Couples
Booked a room as we had a brewery and winery tour in Nun Monkton. Rooms are located in courtyard/car park, originally outbuildings?? Due to age of pub/outbuildings windows and doors are timber single glazed, floor uninsulated too. In spring, summer or autumn this wouldn’t be an issue, but when very cold snap hits then had to use blanket as draught excluder and heater was on full. Having said that, it didn’t spoil our stay, was part of pub/room’s character.
Host and staff were excellent, welcoming and friendly, great choice of beers and gins as well as other drinks. Varied choice of food and host cooks a choice of curries too. We had a spicy salmon one and a lamb passanda, both very tasty.
Following morning, breakfast was choice of cereal, hot drinks etc then a cooked English, prepared individually.

Would definitely return, Jon and Tina and staff made us feel so welcome.

Just what we wanted
Jan 2018 • Couples
Had a fantastic night at the Bay Horse, friendly and helpful staff, and the room was just right. Much more personal that the big hotel chains. If your wanting good food, good company and a proper country inn then this is the place. Thank you for an amazing time.

The host. The staff . The layout and decor of the pub was great. Rooms are in a separate block of 9 rooms all with your own private entrance just behind the pub.

Best of both worlds - you have your own place and then in 10 strides you have a traditional welcoming warm cosy pub. The beer is a delight and I'm in Camra so when I say the cask ale is good its good.

Breakfast was was great and efficiently served with tea or coffee and good humour.

The pub has generous parking and the rooms are on the same level so easy to transport your bags form the car.

You can get taxis to York as some people did - we drove 5 mins down the road to Hammerton station and got the train into York station ( 12mins journey time) and same back.

Great place Great value for money Great hosts.

This pub needs a good clean, and stop having dogs walking around the tables while diners are eating. Food here is just o.k, and over priced. Will not go back again unless some major changes.
