David our guide was very informative and made the tour and tasting fun and enjoyable. He is clearly passionate about his wines. Verity & Maggie prepared a delicious lunch for us that we were able to enjoy outside. Booking the tour was very easy and Tom was very helpful with any questions I had. All our guests said how much they enjoyed the visit and several bought wine. Would thoroughly recommend.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten September 19, 2023

Barry was an excellent tour guide; passionate, informative and fun! Couldn’t fault his hosting skills….or his juggling! The actual guided tour itself was informative and not overly long, and the wine tasting was generous as well as interesting! The cakes and scones (especially with Roddas clotted cream) were an added bonus! All round, we had an absolutely wonderful time and would recommend it to anyone. All the staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Well done Carr Taylor Vinyards!Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 1, 2023
- Kathryn FLondon, United Kingdom15 contributionsEnjoyable, entertaining & rustic!Bought a Groupon and visited the vineyard with a friend. The tour was interesting and informative. David, our tour guide was very entertaining! Learned a few things about wine today that I didn't know before. Ploughman's lunch was ok, definitely needed after the wine. Staff were very friendly and allowed me to bring my dog as well. This is a small family run business so nothing fancy, very rustic but it was all done very well. Wine was really good and we bought a couple of bottles of the sparkling rose which was superb. We had a lovely day, altogether a great experience. I'd recommend a trip here for a lovely laid back afternoon in the beautiful East Sussex countryside.Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 5, 2023

Well Malcolm, our tour guide, was brilliant, so informative and a real gem to listen to. Although no leaves on the vines he still managed to maintain real interest in what was happening at the vineyard. Fabulous visit well worth a visit. We plan to go again to see how the vines are doing.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 3, 2024
- nikita c3 contributionsGreat tour, delicious wine, lovely lunch!A lovely afternoon spent at Carr Taylor with my friends to celebrate a birthday. The tour was informative, the guide very knowledgable and open to questions and interaction from the group. The tastings were excellent and finally we had a delicious ploughman’s. I think I particularly like this vineyard tour because the buildings and surrounding area are all original it feels very genuine and rustic! The wine of course are all really good especially (in my opinion) the sparkling rose. Looking forward to going back.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 16, 2024
- Gemma C1 contributionGreat few hoursA lovely few hours had at the vineyard and a first wine tasting experience. A lovely family run business and the tour guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. The wines tasted were exceptional and they offer some great discounts if buying in bulk. I would return again but possibly wait for better weather in the summer to see the vineyard in all of its glory. The ploughman’s lunch went down a treat too. Would highly recommend the food.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 17, 2024
- simon mBedfordshire, United Kingdom155 contributionsExcellent tour, wine tasting and ploughmans lunchOur family group of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our 2.5 hour plus at Carr Taylor Vineyard on a Saturday lunchtime in late April. As other reviewers have commented, the environment is rather "rustic" which we liked. Malcolm, our host for the tour of the vineyard and for the tasting of 5 excellent different white and rose wines (nb Carr Taylor do not produce red wines) was superb - informative and humorous. The ploughmans lunch was great and we were able to buy glasses of their wine on a special offer to accompany it. We all thought that the tour and lunch were very good value, too.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 29, 2024
- squirleyBolton, United Kingdom85 contributionsGreat wineThe tour was a gift from family. Yes it’s not a pretty entrance to the vineyard but once the tour began that didn’t matter. Ted led the tour into the vineyard to explain about the Carr Taylor family and the growing of the vines. We then went into the bottling area and finally upstairs to the wine tasting. We sampled 7 different wines that Ted explained all the correct types of food to eat with them. A good dayVisited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 23, 2024
- Ann Marie B42 contributionsInformal, informative & fun!We spent a very interesting afternoon with our guide David who gave us a very interesting and informative tour of the vineyard, pressing and bottling areas. The subsequent tasting session was very informal and relaxed where we tasted several varieties of the delicious wine produced wt Carr Taylor. Our visit was finished off with a delicious ploughman’s lunch and the opportunity to buy sone of the wine we had tasted at a discount price.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 31, 2024

I cannot recommend a visit to the Carr Taylor vineyard highly enough, and if you can walk there along one of the many footpaths in the area and leave the car at home, so much the better. You can join a guided tour, or just walk around the vineyard yourself and then try the wines (included in the price of your tour) back at the shop. Then if you fancy another glass, you can buy by the glass to drink in their garden, set amongst the vines. And of course you can buy by the bottle or case to take home. I particularly recommend their rose. They also have a little cafe which does a cracking ploughman's lunch. I enjoyed it so much I went twice in my week's visit to the area!

I booked this tour as a birthday present for my husband and we booked the Premier Inn nearby for the night.
Taxi was £7 each way, well worth the expense so that we could both enjoy the tastings.
If you go on a cold day, remember to wrap up warm!
David was our tour guide. He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable - we asked loads of questions about the vines and learnt a lot.
The tasting was great, not the usual tight amount and several wines were offered (and drunk!) The history behind each wine alongside hints and tips for tasting was really interesting too.
Ploughman's lunch was delicious and very filling.
Overall, a fantastic outing and one that we may well do again when in the area <3

Admittedly not the best time of year to visit a winery, with no life in the vines, and cold wet weather, but come on guys, this place really needs some TLC. As soon as we entered the access road, full of water-filled potholes, I guess we should have been fore-warned of things to come. An old shed with rock hard chairs, no heating (other than a dangerous gas-fired blower), dirty windows, concrete floor, mouldy walls, low beams to duck etc, made for a pretty unusual drinking and eating venue. The wine was good (although samples were tiny, and much smaller than usual tastings) and the cakes and tea for afternoon tea were very good, but the setting made it hard to really enjoy. On the plus side really enjoyed the tour guide talk given by “Dave the Hat”, who was knowledgable and passionate about wine, with just the right balance between information and humour. The management need to review strategy of investing in buying more land and put some of the profits into a real upgrade of the building and public facilities.

This was a Groupon gift from our daughter and our expectations of a cream tea at a world famous vineyard was not met. An afternoon cream tea consisting of two scones two sachets of jam a pile of cream in a cup cake outer a slice of Victoria sponge and a cup of tea is not what we were expecting. The tour guide was friendly and informative but due to health and safety we were not able to see the workings of the actual wine making.
Extremely disappointed.

We visited today as we were given a gift voucher for Christmas. The tour started off well and it was interesting and informative. I will say- this place is swarming with wasps, inside and outside. The wine tasting was enjoyable however our tour guide seemed to favour certain people, giving out large glasses to some and not others. We have all paid to be here so it felt a little unfair. Most of the wines were very nice. The rooms are very cramped and so it was quite uncomfortable when trying to watch the guide talk about the wines. The lunch was also disappointing, felt very cheap and we left hungry. We went back for more but it had already been put away. We did, however, buy a bottle of brut to enjoy at home as it was delicious. Overall, a pretty average experience.

First tour after lockdown easing and the team at CT did an excellent job of making everyone feel safe.
After a brief tour, Sue led us through the tasting. We got to try two still whites (Ortega and Bacchus) and a rose, before moving onto the sparkling wine (Brut, White Pinot and Rose). She was both knowledgeable and entertaining, would certainly recommend.
We finished with a delicious ploughman's lunch, consisting of three cheeses, pate, a pork pie, pickle salad and bread and butter, served with a glass of their 1066 white wine.
It was so good we ended up buying Bacchus, Rose and one each of the sparkling wines in the shop afterwards.
We're so lucky to have such great wine in East Sussex - the whole operation is set up brilliantly for locals and tourists alike.

Let’s start with the positives, the guide was knowledgeable, engaging and entertained the group. The wine was excellent, even if the samples given were really small and the food was really good. But come on, my garden shed is in better nick than the dilapidated “shed” we were ushered into and expected to eat! I know it’s a small vineyard, but a good clean and a lick of paint wouldn’t cost much! Sorry, but the facilities were deplorable and really left the wrong lasting impression.
I am afraid to say, there are better vineyards to visit in the area, I won’t be back!

Despite picking the one day in the week (last week) that was rainy and gloomy we had a really enjoyable visit to Carr Taylor. Not the biggest but not the smallest of the Kent Vineyards it is rustic and authentic and in a lovely spot. We were made welcome by all the friendly staff and our Guide Tom Bacon was very knowledgeable in a down-to-earth and relaxed way. The tour was adapted to cater for the weather and the all important tastings were inside. It was very interesting. We had tea/coffee and biscuits and a lovely ploughmans lunch with a glass of wine. What not to like? Took a bottle of delicious wine home. Look forward to visiting again on a clear day and having a wander amongst the vines.

The vineyard tour, lunch and wine tasting was a belated birthday gift through Red Letter day and one I had purchased for family previously. What a disappointment!
The area is pretty, the staff are friendly and there is ample parking. However the 'tour' consisted of standing near the vines and a look at empty vats and assorted equipment in very shabby sheds. Our guide said it was a working vineyard and so made no apologies for it's appearance.
The ploughman's lunch was okay but not generous and nothing to write home about so, in my opinion, definitely not value for money.

Hi Carol,
Thanks for your feedback.
Vineyards tend to consist of vines, vats and wine making equipment so I am puzzled as to what else you may have been expecting to see. Regarding the ploughman's lunch not being generous, we are currently unable to serve a buffet due to certain restrictions, however we are happy to serve extra portions of everything free of charge (which you did not enquire about)
You have not mentioned the wine tasting session or wine which is the focus of the event and which I sincerely hope you enjoyed.
Once again thank you for your feedback.

It must be also thirty years since I last visited Carr Taylor Vineyards and a lot of changes in that time. We paid £2.50 each to have a wander around the vineyard, then sampled several of the wines. I really liked the Bacchus – when next in the area I will buy a half-box.
Previously I have brought their method champagne sparkling wine and their dry cider (both excellent), but they no-longer do the cider and the fruit wines I wanted to try were all sold out.
Outside there is an excellent / picturesque picnic area next to the vines.

i would be in a Wheelchair is it possible to do the tour?
Written August 21, 2022
Some areas would be accessible but very limiting. The start of the tour is achieved in the gravel car park. The wine tasting is all done upstairs. Part of the tour takes you through areas where you have to step over obstacles. To be really honest it would not be an easy tour to experience in a wheelchair having been on the tour myself. It would be worth contacting Carr Taylor direct as they may well have some sort of prevision in place to cater for this.

Please call us on 01424 752501 to book, or with any queries.
I can email you a list of available dates for vineyard tours with wine tasting and cream tea if that would be helpful.
Kind Regards,

I've been on an Alfa coach tour here and it's classed as a 'drop in' for a toilet break and refreshments - it isn't the full tour other visitors get. So can you tell me how it was a let down when you weren't even due a full two hour tour??? And if you wanted to spend more time there shouldn't you be complaining to Alfa Travel and not marking the vineyard down for not giving you what you weren't entitled to and certainly didn't pay for!!!
