Well this wasn't what we had expected as it differs from other vineyard tours quite dramatically. Don't get me wrong we really enjoyed the experience and learnt so much from the lecture given. However I have never been on a Vineyard Tour which never even leaves the car park!!! When we arrived we checked in as did about 26 others. We were all given a complimentary cup of tea/coffee and as it was a sunny day we sat in the garden seating area opposite the shop. At 1pm the tour guide "David" (The Hat), arrived and asked us all to gather and walk around the corner of the building to the end of the car park. A lecture of the different wines and the vineyard history started and concluded within 25 minutes. We then were told to walk in to the yard area where the wine is collected from the grapes. We then went inside to the wine fermenting vat area. After that we went upstairs to sample one wine and four sparking wines. After this the tour had basically finished approx. 2.25pm. We were then asked to go downstairs whereby we all had a really enjoyable ploughman's lunch and sat in the garden seating area to eat this. With your free meal you are encouraged to buy a glass of wine for £5 or a sparking wine for £8. We were then picked up by our taxi at 3pm and our Vineyard Tour was complete. I was expecting more from the tour but was so glad we did attend and we both learnt so much about how to taste/small wines correctly.

I booked this tour as a birthday present for my husband and we booked the Premier Inn nearby for the night.

Taxi was £7 each way, well worth the expense so that we could both enjoy the tastings.

If you go on a cold day, remember to wrap up warm!

David was our tour guide. He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable - we asked loads of questions about the vines and learnt a lot.

The tasting was great, not the usual tight amount and several wines were offered (and drunk!) The history behind each wine alongside hints and tips for tasting was really interesting too.

Ploughman's lunch was delicious and very filling.

Overall, a fantastic outing and one that we may well do again when in the area <3

A birthday gift voucher for wine tasting and lunch. An excellent time. Yes, this place is not ultra modern and shiny stainless steel but it has history, character and with that a certain charm. Really knowledgeable and fun tour guide who was very considerate that the weather was awful and took us all inside to do most of his talk. We did, however, get to see the vines and the two different growing methods outside first before the rain really set in. We lost count of all the different still, sparkling and fruit wines we tasted but this was followed by a good ploughman’s lunch that was well presented, fresh and plentiful. All the staff were friendly and helpful. If the weather had been warmer and dry we would have stayed longer and had a walk after lunch. Lovely views of the surrounding countryside.

We visited today as we were given a gift voucher for Christmas. The tour started off well and it was interesting and informative. I will say- this place is swarming with wasps, inside and outside. The wine tasting was enjoyable however our tour guide seemed to favour certain people, giving out large glasses to some and not others. We have all paid to be here so it felt a little unfair. Most of the wines were very nice. The rooms are very cramped and so it was quite uncomfortable when trying to watch the guide talk about the wines. The lunch was also disappointing, felt very cheap and we left hungry. We went back for more but it had already been put away. We did, however, buy a bottle of brut to enjoy at home as it was delicious. Overall, a pretty average experience.

Carr Taylor is apparently one of Sussex's oldest vineyard's and it certainly looks it when you approach the rather ramshackle exterior with what looks like an old shipping container perhaps used as an office? The outdoor wooden furniture is definitely in need of updating.

The staff we encountered however were all very nice and customer focussed, the sparkling wine was delicious.

They do however really need to up their game with the cream tea, it was promoted as an "all you can eat" cream tea, but I don't think you would want any second helpings. The scones and cake all appeared to have come from the nearest cheap supermarket, and the scones in particular were quite stale.

We had a morning tour booked followed by a tasting and lunch. We started with refreshments on the terraced area in front of 50 year old vines and then we had a wander through the vineyard and into the bottling area with explanations along the way from our knowledgeable guide, Roland. The tour was informative and light hearted with an explanation of the family history at the vineyard. We then had a tasting of the crisp sparkling wines moving through to the aperitif or desert wines. I would have liked to try the still wines as part of the tasting but to be fair these were available to try in the shop after lunch. Lunch was fab a generous spread of ploughman’s with three great cheeses, pate and pork pies and a lovely mixed salad accompanied by fresh and crusty baguette. Carr Taylor is a small vineyard perfect for a stroll after lunch and a small wood full of bluebells. As it’s family run it has a more informal vibe, less gloss and the tasting parties are small which I liked.

We were in the first cohort of tours following the relaxing of the rules after lockdown, and we were so pleasantly surprised. The host and guide, Sue, was so knowledgeable, engaging, and approachable. It was lovely seeing a local family run Vineyard that has won so many awards. The lunch was a simple ploughman's, but that really allowed us to enjoy the complexities of the wine. There was plenty of wine on offer to taste, as well as meads, fruit wines, etc to try after lunch too. Prices for the wine were so reasonable, especially considering the international awards they have won. They had plenty of hand-wash around and plenty of space for us to keep socially distant. Recommended!

Tour guide was brilliant made it interesting fun and factual - thank you Malcolm the tasting was generous and wines are gorgeous particularly recommend the 1066 wine we ended up purchasing a case so good. Parking excellent. Ploughman’s was offered and cheeses lovely but maybe crusty bread instead of soft baps better please being picky but would be better with cheese. Don’t expect too much this is a working vineyard, but good to support local working places.

After making our booking with the vineyard, we were kept very well informed of the information for the forthcoming visit. It was also nice of them to send a reminder just before the visit. When we arrived, we could purchase some wine whilst we waited and the prices were very reasonable at only £5 for 2 glasses. The very informative tour started right on time and went onto do some very nice wine tasting of lovely white and rose wines, both still and sparkling! We then finished with a lovely ploughman’s buffet lunch with a glass of wine. Afterwards we could walk around the vineyards and even purchase their lovely wines. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming that all in all made our experience a lovely day out in which we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Despite picking the one day in the week (last week) that was rainy and gloomy we had a really enjoyable visit to Carr Taylor. Not the biggest but not the smallest of the Kent Vineyards it is rustic and authentic and in a lovely spot. We were made welcome by all the friendly staff and our Guide Tom Bacon was very knowledgeable in a down-to-earth and relaxed way. The tour was adapted to cater for the weather and the all important tastings were inside. It was very interesting. We had tea/coffee and biscuits and a lovely ploughmans lunch with a glass of wine. What not to like? Took a bottle of delicious wine home. Look forward to visiting again on a clear day and having a wander amongst the vines.
