Tasty refreshment are on offer in Major's Cafe, while an on-site gift shop has a range of souvenirs, proceeds of which go to support the hundreds of equines in the charity's care. While visiting Redwings Oxhill, you might like to support the work of the charity by adopting one of its friendly residents, either for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for a friend or loved one. A year's adoption costs just £15! Please visit Redwings Horse Sanctuary's website for the latest opening dates and hours. Entry is FREE and dogs on leads are welcome too!

We found this place by chance as it was on the road to where we were staying in the area so decided to drop in and visit. It is the first Redwings we've visited. We live not far from the Brandsby Home for Horses in Lincolnshire and whilst this site is not as big, it was still a very enjoyable visit and it was a delight to see all the horses and ponies and to read their backstories.

The site is free to visit but please do donate if you can. There is a gift shop and cafe. The only complaint I have is about the toilet facilities. Whilst there was a disabled toilet, it was a portaloo as were the two others. There really needs to be a proper toilet block.

These guys do great work and rely on your donations and purchases from the shop and cafe. Overall we spent about 2 hours here.

Took my partner and her mother to see the horses and donkeys, as part of a day out. We were disappointed that due to the weather the donkeys had been kept in their yard. I asked a member of staff when they were likely to be let out. Without hesitation she took us in to the yard to see them at close quarters. Sharon you are a star and made both their days. Thank you.

That's lovely to hear MidlandsToffee_man! Due to the needs of some of our animals, the weather can unfortunately play a role in where they are kept for the day, especially the donkeys who are a little more sensitive than others. Our staff, however, will always do their best to make sure visitors get to see the residents they'd love to meet the most and we're so pleased they were able to do this for you. We hope you'll be able to visit us again x

What an amazing place and just a short drive from Stratford upon Avon town centre. Saw this advertised in a magazine so decided to pay a visit. It’s free admission, however any donations are gratefully received and help towards the costs of looking after the animals.

The staff that work here are very knowledgeable and friendly and are happy to answer questions and tell you a bit about the animals. There are also information boards dotted around that tell you about each animal.

There is a lovely little cafe where you can get hot drinks and delicious cakes - well worth a visit. Also, there is a little shop where you can purchase gifts and other things.

It is clear to see that the animals are well looked after and it is clean and modern with lovely scenic views.

Thank you Redwings, we had a fab time and will definitely visit again!

We went on the spur of the moment, having not visited for a few years. My husband uses a mobility scooter and there is easy flat access for him. We also took our dog on a lead. A lovely relaxing hour, wandering up and down the paths saying hello to the horses and donkeys and reading their stories. There was a mix of couples and families and not too crowded.
We didn’t use the cafe, but have done in the past and it’s reasonable value. There is a shop, where you can also make a donation or adopt a horse. Admission is free, so if money is tight, it’s a great few hours out.

My daughter sponsored 2 donkeys, Timothy and Cain, and we were near the area in Feb. Unfortunately it was outside their normal opening hours. However we called the sanctuary and they said we could go along. We met Emma, Paula and Katy who took us to see the donkeys and let the kids feed them and spend time with them. They are expanding the centre and i was really impressed with the site, and it was really heartwarming what they do to help the animals. An amazing place run by amazing people for an amazing cause. Thankyou!!

Excellent trip today. The whole place was clean and the horses and donkeys seemed so happy and content which must be challenging after some of the mistreatment they received previously. Staff friendly and lunch in the cafe was good and inexpensive.

We enjoyed seeing the horses but were so disappointed that the cafe didn't have soya milk or cakes suitable for vegans.
I expected a sanctuary to have products that are animal friendly - after all cows, calves and hens matter just as much as horses and donkeys! Vegan cakes are delicious and suitable for vegans and non-vegans and soya milk is so cheap to provide.

Hi Lichfeldian, thank you for coming to see us. We’re very sorry you were disappointed by the offer of our café. We are always looking at ways to improve the experience we provide for our visitors, so your suggestion of stocking a wider milk selection is very helpful – thank you. In our cafes we aim to provide refreshments and snacks to suit all, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. Obviously, animal welfare is at the heart of what we do so, where products do contain animal products, we do our best to ensure we source menu items with quality ingredients from responsible suppliers. Our best wishes.

Having previously visited their Caldicott branch which we loved we made a visit to Oxhill as we're staying in the area. We loved it. It is a real sanctuary. When people complain that they cannot interact with the horses as they are always in the paddocks eating etc I think they totally miss the point. It is a sactuary not an exhibition. These horses have had a terrible time and have finally found a safe home. The sanctuary post details of each horse on their paddocks and most of the stories they tell are tragic and are often a difficult read. But you must read them and only then can you realise what this place is all about. The staff were all very helpful and friendly as they went about their business caring for the horses. It is free to enter, obviously they would like you to donate but they are in no way pushy. The cafe is attached to their shop and is a nice place to stop for a coffee.
Overall I think this place is brilliant. If you have any interest in horses and their welfare then this is the place for you. But remember the sanctuary is their for the benefit of the horses not to entertain you! Enjoy!

It is ok when it is open, site is rarely updated, no reply to e-mails; visited several times, during opening times, only actually open twice. Not a reliable place to plan your day around

Dear blondy1000, thank you for your comments about our Oxhill centre. I am so sorry to hear that you have not had a positive experience as our supporters are so important to the work of the charity and we would never want you to be disappointed. I am not sure whether you are referring to the website or the site itself that has not been updated, but our website is updated weekly with news from Oxhill and any changes to opening times, while the centre itself has just had a brand new children's play area installed. We are a charity so we do not have the resource to make changes to the centre very regularly but we have been working hard to make it friendly and welcoming. It is open every day to visitors from now until November so can I ask, when did you try and visit? Regarding the emails we would need some more information from you to investigate why you were not replied to, our policy is always to reply within a week. If you could telephone me on 01508 481000 or email info@redwings.co.uk with your details we will look into this further for you. Thank you for the time to add your comments and please do get in touch so we can help resolve this for you. With best wishes, Nicola from Redwings

Our second visit, its lovely to see the horses and of course donkeys. Not the best weather but we enjoyed seeing the animals being looked after by cheerful staff who spoke to the children. We had planned to have hot drinks and cake at the end but the girl behind the counter was intent in cleaning so we didn't bother but made a willing donation in the envelope provided.
