About
We are producers of Zapotec figures carved in wood called "tonas" and "nahuales" known worldwide as alebrijes. We use Mixtec-Zapotec iconography on our pieces in a unique style that we have been able to develop over the years. This is born from a deep appreciation of our origins. Our goal is to make known our Zapotec culture based on the high quality figures we create.

I loved the place. My guide was Daniel and with a lot of patience and dedication he taught me everything fundamental about alejibres. In this workshop they are great artists, they show incredible and unique pieces and they are surrounded by other very beautiful workshops as well. I loved my little trip to San Martin Tiljete, it's worth giving you my regards!

Fantastic workshop and tour. The guide was able to answer all of our questions and it was a pleasure to see so many great pieces at all of the different stages. The only thing that we were a bit surprised by was that there were so few pieces available for sale from the workshop itself. We assume this to be demand based, but still a wonderful experience.

The art is beautiful and fanciful. The workshop is run like clockwork and there are many beautiful pieces on display and for sale. They have become successful entrepeneurs and now have a diversity of services, from places to stay, to a restaurant, to a sustainable farm, all in a safe environment. All of it is located in an authentic, small Mexican town with its own charm. Jacobo and Maria Angeles are invariably welcoming and nice to everyone. They have a great family and business. An overall excellent experience to be around them.

Definitely worth getting out of Oaxaca to come here. You get to see more of the region on the way and the tour of the workshop is fabulous. The only downside is that once you've seen the extraordinary alebrijes created here you look at them with a critical eye when you see them back in town. The artwork, mission and contribution of this workshop to the area are all impressive.

We went for a day trip to see the alebrejes, and it was definitely worth it to stop by this workshop. They were so welcoming, immediately giving us a full tour and demonstrations. Not only that, but the alebrejes are amazing! We bought several and are very happy with them. Overall great visit and worth the trip!

We went there based on a friend´s recommendation. Though the place is laid out to welcome tours and tourist, they still manage to keep the personal touch. The art is astounding, the explanations sound. Best thing: you get the chance to paint your own alebrije.

This place offers you to visit a very traditional alebrijes workshop. It's very interesting and beautiful.
They also sell what they do, giving bonuses to the person that did the piece in the workshop.

Our small tour group spent half a day at this facility operated by Jacobo and Maria Angeles, master wood carvers and painters. The alebrijes figures they and their apprentices produce are exquisite. One of the associates, a carver and painter, explained the process of carving the copal wood, preparing natural paints, and producing the now internationally-famous carvings. Their show room displays carvings and prints running from moderate prices to prices in the thousands of dollars. We treated ourselves to a small bird mask as a holiday present!

This place is amazing. The recounted couple had amazing work, but is also training a new generation of artists to create their type of art. I'd you make reservations, you can even try to make one yourself and they will help you and provide all the material
