This romantic castle with stunning views over Conisbrough, inspired Sir Walter Scott's Ivanhoe and still fires the imagination today. With floors and roof restored in the lofty circular keep you can fully appreciate the magnificence of the original 12th century building. Delve into the medieval world of Lord and Lady de Warenne, and enjoy the grassy areas around the castle walls for games and picnics

It costs 5.50 Pounds for Adults. There is a cafe there where you can also buy tickets and souvenir's. The castle itself has 3 floors with great views of the surrounding area. There are some pictures with text about the history of the castle. On each floor there are projectors with very short films about the history. You can also... More

This suffered by comparison to Bolsover Castle which we'd visited the previous day. It's smaller but cheaper and the "Small Castle" has been splendidly restored with great views. If you're into ruined castle this is a must visit.

I visited Conisbrough Castle a few months ago now, and I can say that it was an amazing experience. The castle is like no other I have ever visited - the owners are always renovating it to make it even more enjoyable for the visitors. The castle's grounds are a great place for dogs, with plenty of places to run... More

English hertitage have done amazing work putting the floors back in the Keep, so it is possible to climb the stairs and see how Hamelin Plantagenet and his family lived. The displays are animated and child friendly, the views from the top of the castle are amazing and outside the Keep there are information boards about the rest of the... More

This was a castle with a difference to most we have visited - the keep has been recently renovated and has wooden floors at each level as the original would have done. This helped our children 'see' what a castle would be like as often they have to imagine/work out where the floors where. The views from the top are... More

More English Heritage sites should be like this. There are lots of information boards dotted about the site full of stories and information about the castle and it's inhabitants accessible to all ages. The views from the top of the tower are spectacular and you can see for miles. There is a free car park just down the hill and... More

Paid to go here once and found it quite expensive to get in, wouldn't pay again, once you get to the top there's not much else to do, it's free to sit on the grounds and take a picnic so that's what we do now. Think people in conisbrough should get a discount to go as it's on our doorstep

Even at 10.30am on a Monday morning the Castle was being besieged by parties of local Schoolchildren, but if you arrive at 10.00am you can get the Castle virtually to yourself. Free but limited car parking is about 100 yards away and at £5.10 for non English Heritage members it's reasonable value, although to be honest unless there's a special... More
