Beware deceptive marketing!!! Unethical company, don’t rent from Powder House Stateline without reading this review.

Powder House Stateline will entice customers with a sign that says $30 rentals. Their corporate website clearly says “All Packages include skis, poles & boots” which is 100% untrue.

After renting a child ski package for 3 days the cost listed on the company website calculates the cost at $93.

I also rented a helmet which cost $39 for three days, so expected to pay more then $93 but the total charge was $165.86!!! Wow!!

After having a discussion with the lady who supposedly said she was the manager, I was told that she does not control the website and I owe what I owe. Sorry, dude.

She was also trying to justify the higher price as she said that they only rent the “performance ski package” BUT my receipt shows “child ski package”.

Unethical, dishonest, and with a management team that has zero customer service skills. Not a place I would recommend.

great experience renting skiis for 4 people. Make appt for the day before and went in got fitted and were on our way within an hour. rented 3 days, 4th day was free. This was great as we skiied 3 out of 4 days, non-consecutive. Drop off took a few minutes and we were on our way. Quick and easy, friendly staff. would definitely use them again

Powderhouse demo store at South Lake Tahoe ticked all the boxes for us. The knowledge, and friendly service that Mark, Owen and the other demo tech team provided us was wonderful. We were able to demo, purchase and store our skis during our stay, with friendly greetings each day we arrived. Prices were good, buying rather than renting, and the convenience factor perfect near the gondola. Was great to be able to arrive at a store jet lagged, and be helped in such a professional way, then continue to welcomed throughout our fortnight holiday.
Thanks guys keep up the good work.

Paid for DEMO skis/boots. Apparently, DEMO means demolished, not demonstration. Had trouble finding a boot to fit that wasn't totally worn out. Boots were in rough shape and the skis were old and beat up. As other reviews stated, employees were of little help and didn't really want to be there. 1st day on the slope, a ski popped off and I couldn't get it back on. The bindings were adjustable and weren't properly secured. Fortunately, a ski patrol person had previously worked rental shop and knew the trick. Found out later that not all Powder Houses are the same, and although they will take your money, supposedly the one by the gondola is better. According to google maps, this location is closed until further notice. I would avoid and go to a more reputable place.

First time skiing. Gave me skies that are too hard locked almost ruining entirely my ski eexperiance! My private proffessional instructor said this was unreasonably adjusted! Bcz of it I couldnt do the slopes!

The worst part was when I told about this all to the manager Heather , she insisted that it was fine and would not ecknowledge their responsibility At All!

If you dislike bad equipment and bad service- I strongly recomand you to not get your rentals there!

I chose to rent my skis here because our hotel gave us a flyer that entitled us to a 15% discount and the fourth day free.
It wasn't worth it.
The staff had no customer rapport. They weren't really rude except for seeming slightly condescending, they just acted bored and uninterested in customer service. I should have taken this as a sign and gone to RipnWillies (where my wife went after seeing my experience and where she was much better cared for).
Instead I ended up renting what was called "The Sport Package". The skis were functional but beat-up and the boots, while better looking, were very low-end. The next day I went back and traded up to "The Performance Package" (I was invested at this point because of the 'fourth day free' deal). The boots were much better and the skis were fine.
Overall I felt like it was almost a bait-and-switch scam. Just call the skis what they really are, don't give pieces of trash fancy names. More importantly there are plenty of competent people out there who'd be happy to have a job like this. Hire them instead.

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. The sport package is our basic value package and yes the skis are old but the price reflects this. We recommend everyone to go into the performance package and we only offer the sport package at select locations for 'value' based customers. There is no bait and switch involved and it is only a $7 difference. Not much considering lift tickets at Heavenly are well over $100.

These folks will rent you the "performance package" without telling you, and thus overcharge you about $15/day.

Even if you can get them to rent the "basic" package, it's overpriced about $9 compared to other rental shops in the area

And the equipment they gave my 15-year-old son had fiberglass de-laminated along the upper edges and would give you fiberglass splinters from handling it. The fitter acknowledged this was a common problem when I returned the ski, but said it didn't effect any of the parts you ski upon. The fiberglass splinters, though, are a safety issue and skis with this problem should never be given to customers without first getting the fiberglass re-glazed. I took a photo of how bad the fiberglass problem was.

In total, I paid about $75 when I should have been billed $40 for a two-day rental, and got damaged skis.

I asked the manager for $20 back, really just a token, because I'd been deceived. He refused! He was trying to get me to agree to some smaller amount, and actually said "I'm trying to work with you". I don't know what was going through his head that would make him try to nickel-and-dime me for what was probably about $5, but I was finished with him at that point. I told him to charge me the full amount of the rip-off and that I'd not use Powder House again, and would give him bad feedback online. I'm just astonished that this fellow would accept losing the business of two annual season-pass skiers, and getting the bad feedback for his company, all for the price of a fast-food hamburger.

I used the branch at 3930 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA, and was there on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at about 4 PM. The amount of money concerned means nothing to me, but I still am offended by being ripped off and don't think you should be ripped off either.

Even though I went through a very long process to reserve equipment online with very detailed information, I wrongly assumed that when we arrived most of the equipment was going to be ready and speed the process. Wrong.
The boots, skis and poles were very deteriorated.
The staff was disorganized (although some were helpful) and because of it they made a mistake on the amount to charge. when I mentioned that there was a mistake one girl changed to a very unfriendly and rude mode, even though I was trying to tell her that she was going to charge me less. he didn't let me talk and only when she noticed the mistake and I told her that I was leaving that she was more receptive.
There are other places to rent equipment. Not recommended.

Don’t rent your skis here…really bad equipment and a staff that doesn’t care. Even the high performance equipment is inferior. There’s a bunch of other places nearby with great equipment.

I have always rented, but this is the first time a boot from my snowboard rental leaked and cut into my ankle. They do not maintain their equipment, and I would not recommend Powder House for safety reasons.
