This is a great cruise to take - the staff was wonderful, the captain was very knowledgeable about the lake and shared the history and facts about the lake in a fun and interesting way. There are several choices of destinations, we chose the Emerald Bay cruise and it was perfect. The staff was very professional in addressing the need for social distancing and hand sanitizing so if you want to view the beauty of Lake Tahoe from the lake I'd highly recommend a cruise from Tahoe Cruises.

We enjoyed our sunset cruise on the Safari Rose. It's a cool, old boat, and we had a very relaxing evening. The sunset was gorgeous and Emerald Bay is certainly a sight to behold!

When I first booked this, I thought I recalled reading about unlimited drinks and also appetizers, but then once on board, you get one ticket for a complimentary drink, and then after that, it's cash bar and you pay for all food. Perhaps I just misread the advertisement, but just wanted to share that it only comes with one drink. Therefore, it does seem a bit pricey ($90 per person). Having said that, we thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and the crew was great. You can't come to Lake Tahoe and not get out onto the lake, so this was a fun way to experience the lake. There is also complimentary shuttle service from your hotel if necessary. The marina is very centrally located though.

Hi there Thank you for the thorough review! You are correct that we used to offer unlimited drinks and appetizers but due to Covid we cannot do that any longer per state mandate. We also self limited to up to 50 vs our normal 68 so that everyone has room to socially distance, so less 18 or more per cruise means less revenues but costs remain the same if not higher. I'm sure you, like most of our guest, understand this dilemma for us! Thank you so much for choosing Tahoe Cruises!

We were looking forward to taking this cruise to Emerald Bay! We selected the 11am departure since the Lake is usually calmer. The captain is incredible with his comments about the Lake and surrounding area. My husband has been coming to Lake Tahoe since 1946 and I have since the late 1950’s. I share this only to suggest anyone visiting this area to NOT wait so long to take this outstanding boat trip.
Snacks and beverages are available and a souvenir photo taken when boarding is offered for a reasonable fee upon returning.

My wife and I are from Boise, ID and planned a weekend getaway to Lake Tahoe. Because this was our first time to the area we wanted to get acquainted with a scenic tour of the lake and heard this cruise company did a good 2 hr run of some points of interest including the picturesque Emerald Bay. We wanted to make the most of our limited time there that weekend. So, we booked a 10am cruise on the Safari Rose the morning of June 26, 2021 about 3 weeks in advance of our trip.

We were very excited to cruise that morning and followed the instructions from the booking email to arrive 45mins prior at the busy marina. A line of passengers began forming on the dock about 30 mins prior and we got in line about 20 mins prior to boarding. One of the gals at the booking window informed us they would begin allowing folks to board 15 mins prior to departing. As 9:45am came and went we began wondering what the problem was. About 9:50-55am a mechanic arrives with another staff member to investigate an issue with the boat. About the time our boat is supposed to leave the mechanic and staff member inform us that the boat needs a new starter and that our 10am tour is cancelled.

The entire group (of what looked like over 50 people) was left with one of two options; either try and rebook for later in the day or get a refund. With cruise slots already pretty full that day and limited time we didn’t have much choice but to get a refund. We tried to get over to see Emerald Bay on a jet ski but prices were way too inflated to make it worthwhile. We even tried driving over to see the Bay from the park but didn’t realize it was a 2 mile hike to get there and didn’t have the right foot wear to make it. We were extremely disappointed for this cruise getting canceled.

I don’t understand why a commercial company with a boat that cruises everyday wouldn’t pick up on a problem like this before and be proactive about fixing it. Instead they waited until the very last minute to call a mechanic and that resulted in our only opportunity to cruise getting cancelled and we missed seeing some of the best sights Lake Tahoe had to offer. These guys could have done A LOT better in my opinion and not left an entire group of people hanging.

Hi Jason, How blessed are you that you've never experienced a starter that fails, or a dead battery or other mechanical issues that so many of us have dealt with in our lives! Our boat cruises 3-4 times a day, throughout the year and we love what we do! The starter failing is one of those things that no one predicts and we certainly would have rather taken you out on the lake vs having to refund all that money and disappointing all those guests. But we DID refund anyone who wanted that option, yourself included, whereas there are other boats here that have no refund policies. Sometimes things happen. Oh and that wasn't a mechanic, it was the owner himself who came to take care of the issue.

Awesome experience. The boat was very nice and the ride was so beautiful. The captain gave great context about the area - very interesting. Mike was a fountain of knowledge and cool to talk to. Marina was a great bartender and made the trip even more fun. I highly recommend this experience to get a great feel for the lake and see the most beautiful sunsets ever.

We have gone on the Safari Rose Sunset Champaign Cruise every year for many years. It became our annual tradition. It used to come with unlimited Champaign, Beer, Wine and Sodas, along with plenty of warm hors d'oeuvres. We went three weeks ago and were disappointed for the first time because each guest was given one drink ticket to be used on beer, wine or even water. Pretty cheap for the increased price they now charge for this cruise. No more hors d'oeuvres, but you can buy food which is pretty expensive for what you get. A few tortilla chips with cheese in a small French Fry size tray costs about $8.

We do enjoy a cruise each year during our vacation, and our disappointment with the Safari Rose led us to try Sail Tahoe Blue which we really enjoyed. Unlike the Safari Rose, the Sail Tahoe Blue Sunset Cruise still provides unlimited beer and wine and is about $40 less. Further it is much less crowded than the Safari Rose. We were not comfortable that the Safari Rose did not at least request non-vaccinated guests to wear a mask. Not one person on our cruise on the Rose wore a mask. At least we found a new favorite sunset cruise with Sail Tahoe Blue.

We had never been to Lake Tahoe and this was a great way to see the lake! It was very relaxing. A slow ride with lots of gorgeous views. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They started boarding 15 minutes before cruise time. If you want your choice of seat, then get there early and stand in line at the gate on the dock. You just needed your name to check in. They took a photo of each group as they boarded and they did turn out very nice. They gave each person a drink ticket which was good for one water, soda and specific alcoholic drinks (domestic beers and think house wine, mimosa). If you wanted another drink, you could buy that. We were allowed to bring a water for each person. There are bathrooms on board. You were free to walk around while cruising. There were many different areas to sit - inside or out. As I said, if you get there early, you can get your choice of seat. There really isn't a bad seat. We sat up top near the bow because it was a very sunny, warm day. The people the boarded first on our boat, grabbed the very front of the boat outside. I included many photos of seating areas. It was 2 hours of relaxation and they did narrate certain areas. We spent probably 1/2 hour in the Emerald Bay. I highly recommend going on this trip.

We had such an amazing time on the sunset cruise! Everyone onboard, both crew and guests, were great to be around. The crew was attentive and helpful, and we enjoyed the commentary of the captain. The captain shared some interesting history of the lake, but not so much to where you were annoyed with too much talking.

Even though it is June, it definitely got chilly! I recommend a jacket/jeans/blanket/etc. We selected seats on the back of the boat, right outside of the doors leading into to bar area on starboard side - we loved those seats! We had awesome views and had a shield to block a ton of the wind! Fun little secret!

Overall, just a great night! We had an awesome sunset, and we were so glad we decided to do this! Would definitely do again!

What a lovely way to see the lake, especially with friends. We took the Emerald Bay tour. The captain has a great sense of humor and his history of the lake was factual but entertaining. Everyone made us feel so welcome. Thank you!!

We had a wonderful experience on our Sunset Cruise. The Safari Rose was really a cool vessel and the amount of people that it accommodated was perfect. It was not too crowded at all. The Captain exuded passion for his job as he ferried us to Emerald Bay and got us a close up view of Vikingsholm. He shared so much interesting history and facts that it made the cruise so much more than a boat ride. Drink service was spot on as was all the service received from booking to boarding - all with friendly help and smiling faces. Thanks for a wonderful time!
