It really is as difficult going down as it is going up!

This trail is brutal. It is mostly rock and very hard on the feet going up and down. Going up, has parts that are very steep, especially after the third lake. Well, it's steep going down too, but my heart and lungs didn't protest that. The knees did. Fallen Leaf Lake is the first lake and is very pretty. LOTS... More

This is one of the highest points around Lake Tahoe. Superb views abound as you clear the treeline too. And there are plenty of marmots around to entertain you. At 10,500' be aware though that if you're coming from sea level you will suffer the effects of altitude! Use ibuprofen (with food) if you feel headachy/tires and this will help.

This is the highest mouintain you can climb around Lake Tahoe and it's worth the effort. You should be physically fit but as soon as you reach the top, the views are spectacular. You can see lots of chipmunks on the way up and with a little luck you even see blackbears. Enjoy!

There are a couple different trails to get to Mount Tallac summit, I took the more popular route that goes by Floating Island Lake and Cathedral Lake. The trail head is off highway 89 a few miles from highway 50, look for the Mount Tallac sign. Be aware this trail head has been moved and some of map apps will... More

This is the best hike for an experienced hiker visiting Tahoe. I've done this hike a few times and it's definitely an all day affair. For me, it took about 7-8ish hours to go up and down. Going up the mountain, it can get steep at some points. Coming down the mountain can get steep as well and rocky. My... More

This is a great hike for an experienced hiker. The views are spectacular all the way up and down. We made it up and down in 6 1/2 hours spending half an hour at the top savoring the views. The trail is rocky and steep at times, but manageable. This year there is crazy amount of bees on the trail... More

We were told this was a 9.4 mile hike that should take 3-6 hours. We are experienced hikers and it took us 7 hours. It seemed like 14 miles according to our iPhone health app. Perhaps we took the long trail behind the mountain instead of scrambling straight up. Regardless, the beginning has great views of Fallen Leaf Lake and... More

We did the shorter 1.7 mile hike to a small mountain lake. Rated easy to moderate but we found parts somewhat challenging because of sharp rocks that we found hard to traverse. Our lab's feet didn't tolerate it very well. The view of Fallen Lake and Lake Tahoe made it all worthwhile.

If there is a really beautiful view at the top of the mountain there is nothing that you can read or lear during the hike, it's could be memorable if someone puts signs which inform people about what surround them.

I had no idea what this hike would entail going into it. It starts in the woods taking you past some beautiful lakes and with gorgeous views of Lake Tahoe. But then you go above the timber line and follow the switchback trail over the Rocky Mountain face. And that's just the first half! You can't even see the summit... More
