This is a great way to see the entire Lake Tahoe and surrounding area. we did it in the summer with our family and had a great time. There is food and snacks at the top and the view is more than worth the price!

My husband and I will be embarking on a California road trip at the end of September. We're in our early 30s, no kids, and enjoy hiking, kayaking, taking photos, seeing the sites, etc. It's our first time in California! We will be staying in South Tahoe. We will be leaving Napa first thing on Sunday 9/24, and I understand it's about a 3 hour drive to South Lake Tahoe. We will have the rest of Sunday, and Monday morning to explore the Lake Tahoe area. (We are leaving South Lake Tahoe to...More

This is our plans so far: Fly from Tampa, Fl to Reno. Got the rental car booked. We are staying at Harveys, So Lake Tahoe. We are not hikers or kayakers so, we plan on sightseeing in the daytime and gambling at night. Any suggestions as far as free upgrades at Harveys ? Lake or Mountain tower ? Do the hotels or local papers have any discount coupons for the Gondola at Heavenly or the MS Dixie cruise ? Plan on taking a drive around the lake, best scenic route to take ? We will be there for 5...More

The mountain tower at Harvey's is the older part of the hotel. The rooms are smaller and not as nicely decorated at the Lake tower. You will probably be charged a higher price for the Lake tower but it is worth the difference I think. They are called "Premium" rooms. Ask for a room on a higher floor and more importantly ask to be on the "California side" so you have a view of the lake. I just returned from there last weekend and go about once a month. If you have any questions, just ask.
