We thoroughly enjoyed the gondola ride and the magnificent views of Lake Tahoe from the observation deck. Unless you have problem with heights, it is highly recommended!
The observation deck is a stop on the way to the top, but you cannot stop going down the mountain. There was very little activity at the top ski area, but the observation deck is well worth the cost.

After 28 years of visiting Tahoe, we finally did it! As we were walking by the Gondola on Wednesday (6/30) we stopped to ask questions of the staff member outside the entrance. He was very helpful with his suggestions: buy tickets online and go that day because of possible weather challenges later. We did exactly that. The Gondolas are in constant motion (like the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland) so there is no long line. You do not ride with other people - not sure if that is Covid protocol or always. The ride is very smooth and the first stop at the observation deck is breathtaking! You stay as long as you want and then must proceed to the top where there are activities. Note: you must wear closed-toe shoes for the summer activities. You can also stay there as long as you want. The return ride goes straight down to the starting point. When we returned they were not sending any more folks to the top, because there was a stronger possibility of bad weather. We never saw that happen, but I commend them for their caution! It is pricey - $92 for 2 seniors, but it is worth every dollar! Don't wait 28 years like I did!

The Gondola at Heavenly made for a great day trip. We are not skiers so we were hesitant that we would find enough to do on top of the Heavenly Hill but we had enough to do for the entire day. The ride is gorgeous with spectacular views. Definitely get off at the first platform for a cup of coffee and great views. The lake was covered in fog the day we visited but the sunset was insane. Pricey but average in comparison to daily lift tickets. Would recommend that they offer a package deal that includes the gondola with the roller coaster and/or tubing for a fun filled day for non skiers

Amazing ride with unbelievable views of Lake Tahoe, a bit pricey but a must do when in the area.
It had an observation deck during your first stop for great pictures of the lake and the surrounding mountains. We had a great time at the top of the mountain … there was a DJ with great music, we enjoyed lunch at Tamarack Lodge and kids spent time playing in the snow.

What spectacular views of the lake and mountains. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the viewing platform, a great place to get photos and stretch your legs. Then another 10 minutes to get to the top. There is not much to do at the top if you are not doing some of the adventure activities. The ride down is about the same length. The gondola cars are completely enclosed. There are very small vent holes on 2 or 3 sides so there is no air circulation. Depending on the time of day, location of the sun and temperature the car can get very hot.

We enjoyed this experience but it’s a bit pricy especially for summer when much of the activities at the top (understandably) don’t exist.

However the views are great and there is an easy 1/4 mile loop trail with information about the various wildlife of Lake Tahoe that was informative and fun.

Be sure to get off at the midway stop bc that is where the best views are.

Very fun in the summer - Epic Passholders get a free gondola ride, and then pay extra for the optional coaster and fun activities on top. Other family members paid for the gondola and thought it was worth the half day. Nice lunch and alcohol available at the lodge, as well as a chairlift which takes to to a few hikes on top of ski area.

Be sure to exit at the first gondola stop to walk around the platform and to see incredible views - these were the best photos from our trip.

We had a beautiful ride up the gondola when our grandkids came to visit from Texas. The glass bottoms of the gondola cars freaked them out at first but then they loved it and were sure they would spot a bear. We payed to ride the coaster at the top ahead of time too, so they had some fun things to explore at the top. (The ropes course was closed and they weren't interested in the long slide). Be sure to stop and get out at the first level and take the walkway all around. There a beautiful visitas and you can take a short hike from that level that the kids enjoyed. (About 1/2 mile roundtrip).
I suggest you pay for your reservations several days in advance. It often sells out during summer. It is better to ride in the morning when breezes are light. The gondola often has to close in the afternoons if the winds get gusty!

We had a great time at Heavenly. The gondola ride up was nice. The observation deck gave us spectacular views of Lake Tahoe. Make sure you fill out the liability waiver so you can take the chair lift up to the top. We hiked some great trails. The only negative is that it is $56/person, a little pricey in my opinion.

The Gondola was nice to sit back and ride up the mountain. The views were awesome. There is also a chair lift included in the price that you can go up even further. There are also some trails that you can walk down, The line moves quickly to board the ride.
