Pope Beach is a seemingly endless white-sand beach. The tree-line comes right to the beach The sand is nice and soft, but the nearby pine trees means the sand is littered with sharp pine needles. The beach is also infested with yellow-jackets. Just as we were leaving, our 4-year old was bitten by one, which was a lousy ending to... More

Came in the morning with plenty of sunscreen and lunch, stayed all day and even rented some paddle boards / kayaks for an hour. Two adults, 3 kids (ages 7-9-11) gave this spot a hearty thumbs up. We all loved it.

Probably the most Caribbean-like beach of all the beaches in Tahoe except with pine trees and mountains and very cold water.

My husband and I were in South Lake Tahoe for our 8th anniversary and we both wanted at least one day to enjoy at "the beach." Because we had a lot planned, I knew there was a good chance we'd only get one beach day...I was right. I researched for months off and on to figure out which beach was... More

We chose Pope Beach after seeing the video of bears playing in the waters last week. Parking is close to the shore which is important if you're older women toting chairs and picnic, not to mention beach blanket, towels and reading material. Nearby boat rentals were tempting but we ended up wading in the water and finishing off the latest... More

Pope Beach is a long beautiful sandy strip. It has plenty of parking and shade areas if needed. The beach is so long that even when busy, it doesn't feel crowded. If you lay on the beach you'll be joined by the local geese, ducks and maybe a seagull. Parking/entry fee is required but is good at other beaches on... More

We came in the afternoon and it was a little breezy and the water was a little choppy. On the plus side, there was plenty of parking (and bears in the parking lot!). There were a lot of people at the beach but it didn't feel too crowded and with the tall trees coming so close to the lake, there... More

So pretty. Not crowded, but fun. Families, young people, retired folks- everyone was enjoying the water, sand and sun. Boats off in the distance. You didn't feel like your kayak was going to hit swimmer or other craft. Try it.

This is a great beach. We visited the Pope house that is located on the property. We love history and like to know more about the area. The tour was great and well worth the time and the fee.

My family has been vacationing in North/West Tahoe forever and this year decided to randomly branch out to other beaches. Pope Beach is now top on my list!!! Glorious golden sand beach, easy access for everyone, great swimming, kayak and SUP rentals on the beach. Very clean bathrooms. Run by the CA Forest Service on USA Federal land. Love!!!
