Riding in the forest

Great family trail ride above Camp Richardson. They did a great job of matching horse to kids and adults. Mikala was a great guide, allowed a perfect pace for all skill levels

Friendly, relaxing and enjoyable…that’s how o describe our experience at the Camp Richardson Coral. This was our third time here and we have always enjoyed the extremely friendly staff and the relaxing and memorable ride. They match up up with the proper horse so the fit is correct. The trail is scenic and at a relaxing pace. We always leave planning our next return! I’d highly recommend it for everyone.

This was an excellent choice. We were provided horses that fit our experience. And Chelsea, who was our guide, was truly awesome. She took us to some absolutely beautiful areas. Well done everybody! We would do this again!!!

Super Friendly Pony Ride
Jul 2020 • Family
Need reservations, so plan ahead. Have used the "Pony Ride" for grandson every trip. They use reg size horse, helmets, adjust straps, ranch hand does a 1x1 lead down and around a real trail thru the trees, not just a circle in a corral. Our almost 4 yr old loves the experience and how they talk to him about horses name, why it needs a drink, etc. Good price and quality experience. Be prepared for covid rules to apply here too.

Wonderful Experience
Sep 2019
Travelling with my husband, this was my first visit to the US and I had hoped to do some Western horse riding. We came across Camp Richardson Corral's sign on the road and we called in. I was lucky that there was a space available on the next trek and I was lucky to get General. A pure gentleman of a horse. All the helpers were so nice, and we had Olivia as our guide who was extremely conscious about all her riders' and horses' safety. It was a one hour trek through the woods which was stunning. In my youth I worked in and experienced riding establishments in Ireland, and I was very happy with the care and condition of the horses and ponies at Camp Richardson Corral. A wonderful experience.

A little more excitement than we wanted.
Sep 2019
As part of a family reunion, we had 14 people on the rides - 10 on the 2-hour ride and 4 on the 1-hour. The 1-hour ride was ok but "Tex" would not keep up despite my frequent nudges to the ribs. I was told before we left the stables that he has only one speed, so I was prepared for that - but it meant more work for me than I'd have liked and ensured that the 3 family members behind me could go no faster than a slow walk. The 2-hour ride was a near-catastrophe for 3 of our family members. Apparently in an off-trail part, they went through a ground nest of yellowjackets that stung the horses badly under their bellies and around their faces. Unfortunately, while trying to deal with the horses' bucking and trying to throw their riders, the guide stopped the ride while the last horses were still standing over the nest so the poor horses (and our family) had nowhere to go to get away from it. The three horses bucked and reared but fortunately my family members are good enough horsemen/women to have hung on. If they hadn't, they'd have been bucked off onto rocks, which could have been tragic. One of our group also got stung. Despite everything, our group enjoyed the ride and now have a story to tell, but obviously it could've been much better. Riding over ground nests can't be helped, of course, but it would've been better if the guide had realized where the problem was and been able to get our folks to safety faster. Apart from that, I found the crew at the corral very helpful and accommodating, getting all our family members on the rides they wanted.
