The beaches are crowded this summer at the Lake so plan your transportation so that you can find parking or arrive on a bike or on foot. The views from this beach are extraordinary, so once you get here relax and enjoy. Need lots of sun screen.

Okay all you people without dogs, this is a DOG BEACH. There are only two dog beaches on all of giant Lake Tahoe, and the locals don't use leashes, so if you don't want to be around free-wheeling canines, go to a different beach! Kiva has an extremely short sand area, a protected marsh behind it, and lots of scrub bush, so that's why it's free to "dog families". Lots of fun for pooch people, though.

We were travelling with our dog, and were surprised to see how many beaches just don't allow dogs. Kiva was one of the only ones that did. Pro tip: get to the parking lot for Kiva early as the lot is very small and fills up quickly. We didn't know this and got lucky to find parking at 11am. I have also heard since we were there, that there was a bloom of blue green algae that is harmful or fatal to dogs, so if you go you might want to keep them out of the water. There is a nice walking trail along the Lake to enjoy and luckily that is all we did when we were there.

If you are looking for a great dog beach in Tahoe, then you found it! Parking is a short distance away and has a nice path to the beach. Be sure to keep your dog on the leash in parking lot and on path, but once at the beach it is best to just let them off the leash...otherwise dogs get a protective nature around their owners. A bunch of other dogs will come up and instantly be in your dogs face, so if they don't get along with other dogs (in a playful manner), it is probably best not to bring them. The beach itself is a narrow strip of sand that ends with a sandbar. It has marsh-type of a lagoon on the inland side that can contain a bunch of harmless garter snakes. If it has snakes, expect kids to take them out and play with them everywhere on the beach. There are some shady spots on the right side of the beach that has trees. Some have fallen (or cut down) and makes for a nice seat. Overall, nice beach for dogs and people!

Really nice place to chill out and have a piknik, the beach is a delight, and the water is crystal clear, also the background scenary is very pleasant, best to go on a warm sunny day. Hope this has been of some help for you...

This is a nice sandy beach that is pet friendly. Although dogs are supposed to be on a leash, many are not so you need to watch your dogs. To get there, you need to follow these directions. Turn right off of Highway 89 past Richardson Grove at the sign that says Tallac and Kiva Bach, and then drive a real short distance to the sign that says Tallac Point, Lake Access and turn left. Do not continue straight. This will take you to the parking lot and to the beach. People bring there rafts, kayaks, paddle boats etc. It is a pretty small parking lot, so get there by 9:30. As you near the beach, you can either turn left and go to the big sandy beach which doesn't have a lot of shade or to the right which has lake access but little sand and is shaded by many trees. After you turn right off of Highway 89 if you continue straight on that road you will reach a large parking lot that says Kiva but that only leads you to a rocky shore.

My wife, grown daughter and I visited Lake Tahoe in mid-September. After hiking all morning we (well my wife and I) wanted to do something a little easier in the afternoon. We stopped at the National Park Service visitor center (a fun destination in and of itself) for advice. They told us about a couple of easy trails, more like walks, at the center including one to Kiva Beach. It is a short easy walk to the beach but if you drive a very short distance down Hwy 89 from the visitor center you can drive to a parking area next to the beach. It was a pleasant Sunday when we went and the beach was pretty crowded. We were very pleased to see that Kiva Beach is a dog beach! There were dogs of all breeds and sizes playing in the sand and jumping in the water. Talk about putting on a show! The view from the beach, really anywhere around Lake Tahoe, is outstanding. But the stars of the show are the dogs. Kiva Beach is just a treat.

This is a great dog friendly sandy beach with warm shallow water and plenty of nearby parking a short drive from South Tahoe. I take my two labs there frequently.

Kiva Beach is a great spot to hang and dip in the lake. Nice sandy beach out and in the water. Dog friendly although some owners don't understand leash laws and let their pouches roam. Had no problems with aggressive dogs but ..... Free parking and lots of it if you time it right. I believe it's the only free beach on the lake. Highly recommended!!!
