We had an extremely nice time with our family just before Xmas, so this review is a bit late, Sorry.

The food was excellent, and the service was great. There was an excellent choice of dishes, and nicely presented, not just your standard dishes.

We are going again in February for a birthday celebration.

Been to this restaurant many many times, for lunch and dinner, each time the food and service has been excellent. Menu is updated regularly so no need to get bored with the choices.

Popped in on for the first time last Monday. What a great surprise. The restaurant was full but we were offered a table in the pub. By 8 pm the place was heaving. Staff very friendly. Good menu with interesting choices. As it was a Monday night the deal was any fish dish from the menu for £8 so my husband had the haddock, mash and egg. I had a good burger. Tuesday nights are steak night - two steaks and a bottle of wine for £40 and I think Saturday is BOGOF if you eat before 6.30. All great ways to get bums on seats. We live just a couple of miles away in Harrow Weald and we're definitely go back. Just mind out if you're tall like us - low ceilings and wine could be a painful combination. Really glad we've found this local, fairly priced pub/restaurant. We'll be back.

I came to visit one evening this week with my family of four for dinner. We were glad to find it was a seafood special week and one of the party ordered crab. Our waitress checked the availability and all was well.

We ate our starters (sharing board was very small but yummy nonetheless) and waited for our mains. The food arrived for three of us but at this point the waitress announced that actually there was no crab that evening. I was shocked that they'd waited this long to share this information with us. He was asked to order something else but unfortunately by this point there was limited availability of the seafood range.

Whilst the food was good, this disruption meant the evening was disjointed and very disappointing. It's a shame to come out for a family meal only to eat at completely different times! In the past I have found this restaurant to be of high quality so this evening's experience was a big let down! Poor staff communication!

I'd heard good things about this place. However I tried to book a table for four people online via their website at around 2pm on the Friday for the following lunchtime. It took them until around 11am the next day to finally get back to me and say they were fully booked. The email didn't refer to me by name nor did they suggest an alternative time we could be accommodated. Shame really as they clearly couldn't care less about our custom. I shan't be returning or recommend to others. There are plenty of other decent pubs serving food nearby.

We regularly visit this lovely cosy pub for a bite to eat either in the restaurant, bar or even there new outside garden area & have never had a bad meal. It’s nice to have such consistency with the food & also variety as the menu seems to have new dishes added regularly. It’s perfect for that lazy I don’t want to cook night mid week good food that’s affordable.
We are always made to feel very welcome by all the friendly staff.
A real cosy local!
Thanks guys.

Went here this evening, for a late night dinner.. The dining area is small and quaint and very homely and welcoming. The service was amazing and staff really friendly. Ordered the lamb and the salted caramel tart for pudding. Both were amazing and would definitely visit their again .. Quiet glad not many people know about this place, or I would never get a table again!

Visited Horse and Chains last Saturday after a previous good experience but what a difference. My Smoked Salmon starter was just pieces of smoked salmon thrown on some lettuce, the Mushroom dish my friends had was inedible. The chicken burger was tasteless, no seasoning at all, the burger was dry and tasteless. The service and dessert were good. It was very busy and the kitchen may have been overwhelmed but you cannot run a restaurant where the food is so variable. We told the servers that the food was terrible but they just shrugged as if to say we are really busy and we do not care. I will not return

At this time of year restaurants often promote a party "special" Horse and Chains is no exception, what is exceptional is that the waitress drew our attention to the fact that it was mostly the same menu and if we were going to have two or more courses it would be cheaper to take the party menu. We did so and had an excellent two course meal for £18.00 a head from a varied and interesting menu.
