This place is absolutely a must-see! The location is perfect, its such a beautiful sight! Its quite a walk but its definitely worth it. The church itself is nice but not too special, but the surroundings and the location are very beautiful.

We have driven the north-south highway east of Lake Garda many times. Every time we spotted the church that is built on a narrow ledge against the mountain face. This year we had a chance for a closer inspection. To get there you need to park in a little town called Spiazzi. From there you can walk down to the Basilica. Or you can take a huttle bus. The walk takes about 20 mins and is fairly steep, but well paved. If you are reasonable fit, I would recommend walking. The scenery on the way is very pretty and the walk and anticipation add to the overall experience. When you get to the Basilica you will find a pretty church which is integrated in the mountain wall. the left wall inside the church is just rock. At this site the madonna was seen centuries ago and that's why it is a sanctuary where they build the basislica. It ia also a destination for pilgrims and tourists alike. Nuns still live on site. The view into the valley is also impressive. Altogether a site that is well worth a visit.

Getting to see this beauty was well worth the drive and the walk. I had read that there is a bus service that will move guests so you don't have to walk but we went on a whim and didn't match up with the schedule. It's an absolutely amazing sight that can't be missed if you're in the area.

It’s less than an hour from Mantua by car. You park at a local carpark which costs 2€ (you’ll need coins) and it’s a short walk to where the “walk/hike” begins. Lots of activity at the start, near a Plaza, restaurants, coffee shops, etc. Its a kilometre to the church downhill. An easy walk. We saw old folks waiting at a small bus stop near the church but never saw a bus pass us. Church itself is very pretty and the setting in the rock is impressive! Nice quiet tourists, lovely little restaurant with a view right there. Free entry. From the church i saw people going down the steps to join hikers move in the direction of the mountain, which must be a lovely hike if you’re up for that kinda thing. It was a bright sunny day. Love churches Italy ❤️

We have a Fiat panda hire car and decided to go the scenic route via S29. This requires concentration and a small car helps. When we arrived back there was a very strong smell of hot brakes! It is well worth the 1 hour drive. Awesome location for a church. We parked at the top car park and walked down past the barrier. I recommend walking down the road to see the statues of the stations of the cross on each bend. Coming back we took the steps (500+) but there is a tourist bus if that would defeat you. It really is worth every step.
