Highly suggestive
May 2019 • Solo
I took the lift up Monte Solaro, very crowded, started on the foot path to the Cetrella church --- and immediately I was alone. The church is abandoned, in a suggestive atmosphere. The path is well marked and broad up to the church, from there onwards it becomes narrow and overgrown, I wondered whether I was still on the right track, and then I hit on the steep cliff which is the Passetiello drop down to Capri. There are steel cables, which are helpful mainly to give confidence that the drop will end safely. The high from the cable car to Capri took about 90 minutes. I would recommend this over the inverse, which is a steep climb.

Lovely walk but don't go the Anginola alternative
Jan 2019 • Solo
I have walked the "normal" Il Passetiello twice, and loved the rough trip, although I get very, very exhausted up the steep forest track.

The third time I took this trip, I tried to find the track up the Anginola valley. Despite the recommendation in the youtube movie, I recommend not to choose this alternative. The walk up the classic Il Passetiello is equally challenging, but has lovely view as a benefit.

After the deviation, the Anginola path first goes through a lovely forest, really nice. After a while, the climb started, and the track was just as rough as Il Passetiello. The worst was that I lost the marking when the track reached the cliff, I regrettably went to the left, but should have gone to the right. Luckily I managed to get down with only a few bruises. The track to the right soon had marks again, but continued rough also here, before the steepest part where chains are fasted so the walkers can drag themselves up the cliff. Above the cliff, 15 seconds of view before a very dense forest until I reached the path from the Cetrella hermitage.

Despite having a nice forest part before the cliffs, I strongly missed the lovely view over Capri, which lacked completely (with the exception of 15 seconds, see attached photo) along the Anginola track.

NOTE to others: Nowhere to get water or any food on the way (neither the classic Il Passetiello nor the Anginola alternative), so bring everything you need. Good boots and rough clothes are recommended.

‘Meraviglioso!’ (Marvellous)
Nov 2018 • Solo
A rough trail - dirt track - with marvellous views along the way. It’s steep, so be prepared to use your hands and an occasional knee, although you can walk almost all the way. I’ve walked the trip twice from the Capri side - it’s easier to walk up the rough part, I think. Will redo, although I am completely exhausted half way up the hill from Capri.

Next time, I will try the path to the right after the viewing point above the hospital, up to the Anginola valley - hope I’ll find it. It’s described as a bit easier climb than Il Passetiello.

Walk a path less trodden
Jul 2018 • Family
Second walk of the day.
We started this hike to Capri after travelling to the top of Monte Solaro from Anacapri. We bought a one-way ticket up the chairlift (which was a surprisingly single person affair!) the Passetiello track was not well marked from the start and had to rely on GPS maps (Ulmon - a life saver) to pick up the recently brush cut path. The early stage runs close to the sheer cliff edge, magnificent, yet take it carefully, no handrails or warning signs here. The views are breathtaking and we would recommend a mid to late afternoon descent, out of the heat and better photos. The track is randomly marked with a red (think blood red) paint markers on the odd rock or two. There are some very steep sections on very unstable rocks. We would suggest wearing good footwear and stowing the camera for some segments that require the odd grab at vegetation with an available hand to assist. This walk finishes (appropriately) at the hospital at Capri and passes through a mix of terrain.
We felt this was a far more rewarding venture then jumping on a bus!
Feel accomplished that you have down something that less than 0.001% of visitors to Capri have ever completed, you deserve a drink!

Fantastic walk
Sep 2016
This is a challenging walk but not impossible in any way. In guide books they say it takes 3 hours. We did it in 1 hour and 10 minutes. And I am 58 years old and have bad knees!
Start in Due Golfi, go to the hospital and follow the signs. The trail is steep and you better not suffer from vertigo. When you come "over the top" you will be grateful you did take the challenge on.
