Fantastic area. The lady Buddha was beautiful to see, and the gardens are filled with many other wonderful sculptures and buildings. It was free to enter. We arrived at 12 and left at 1:30 and saw heaps and heaps on monkeys and the view was amazing.
We went back at 17:00 and saw zero monkeys / no monkeys.
Maybe they only come during the early morning/middle of the day! Either way both times was spectacular. And lady Buddha was even better at night glowing.

On our way from Huê to Hoi An, we made a quick stop at the beautiful "Son Tra Mountain", with breathtaking views of Dà Nãng Bay, South China Sea, Marble Mountains and the Linh Ung - Bai But Pagoda. During the Vietnam War, a U.S. Air Force and Marine base was located at the very peak of "Son Tra Mountain" and it was known as the "Monkey Mountain Facility". The name - "Monkey Mountain" - derives from the many many monkeys living then in "Son Tra Mountain". Today, not so many monkeys are seen in its green trails, as they moved deep into the forest. But the attractive scenary is still there! At only 10 km from Dà Nãng's city center and at 700 m above sea level, "Son Tra Mountain" should not be missed by all those traveling between Huê, Dà Nãng and Hoi An. Enjoy!

Please note that if you are on an automatic scooter (rather than a manual/motorcycle), you will not be able to access all of the areas of the peninsula. We were turned back by guards and a closed gate, and unable to go see the Banyan Tree and a few other landmarks. The Goddess of Mercy shrine and nearby pagoda are still accessible by scooter, or you can pay to take one of the scheduled shuttles.

Seems that this is not a favorite for .ost people, as there are only 2 reviews. It does require some planki g and forethought, though, and the experience can be amazing if you are mildly adventurous.
Son tra is a Peninsula off the main drag of Danang, and is probably one of the most natural and splendid to visit in the area. It has one of the most spectacular pagodas (one of 3 in the area, all called Linh Ung Pagoda, the most peaceful place with a stunning view. The Lady Buddha statue which is considered as the tallest one in Vietnam (67m high, 35m lotus diameter, equivalent to a 30-storey building). The venue features the most unbelievable number of bonsai trees, all in pristine condition. Worth a visit and one of the highlights of our visit to Danang. The rest of the peninsular is beautiful and you can stop off along the road at some of the infrequented beaches along the way. If you're planning g to visit the entire area, you'll need to either arrange a driver/taxi or use a motorbike with gears, and automatic bikes are prohibited 🚫. Stop off at one of the beaches along the way and enjoy local cuisines and clear swimming waters.
Here are some tips though to make your journey more enjoyable:
1. Pack sunscreen and a hat. You can easily burn.
2. Stop off at places that seemingly they have a path or off the beaten track. These are the best stop offs.
3. Hire a bike with great or a taxi to get around. You can only go so far on a scooter.
4. Take water as there are no shops.
5. Wear slops to the Pagoda, as you take your shoes off a lot.
6. You won't be able to get to the 'out of the way beaches' unless you're prepared to walk a long distance.

Tranquil nature spot with charming view.
A lot of monkeys near the white statue pagoda.
I came there by a motorbike in August, the sun was quite strong in the morning so I came back in the afternoon. Fresh air and sunset view from the pagoda were amazing!

Son Tra Peninsula is famous for its plentiful plants and fauna as well as the attractive scenery. It is said that fairies used to come here for singing, dancing and playing chess so Son Tra is also called Tien Sa, which means Fairies’ landing place.there are a lot to see here, like monkey path, Linh Ung pagoda, Giant banyan tree, Son Tra View Tower, chess board peak and so on.i only visited the pagoda.i visited it on 11 September, that time i took grab bike to here, after visiting,i walked to the beach just before Bãi tắm Phạm Văn Đồng on foot. actually, i planned to walk to my khe beach, but felt very tired, i changed my mind, and called grab bike to take me to the pink church of Da nang.

As far a crowed drawing tourist attractions go son tra mountain has it made. Yet there is nothing to do besides take a few photos, getting a good one not polluted with hundreds of people is not so easy. If you really have nothing els to do or get bored of the beach this would be a good afternoon excursion.

Monkey Mountain was amazing! Very touristy but well worth the visit. The views were amazing and the monkeys ran around everywhere - not worried about all of the people at all. We went early afternoon and saw heaps!

we visited the peninsula several times on bright days. we visited several viewpoints, and we had nice walks in the forest.
the only thing we failed to see, is the endemic monkeys living there. we like to see them very much.
in all, they were worth visits and it is highly recommend.

We went for a morning walk up the hilss with two locals we befriended whilst there. Best way to see the monkeys as cars make too much noise. You can stop on the road and see them in the trees. Very peaceful place and so close to the city.

Hello,
Thinking of flying to Da Nang on October 30th from Singapore. I would LOVE to see the Red Shanked Douc langur monkeys. I've read where the rain may be too bad for this time of year. Please advise and thank you in advance.

Are there any good, non-motorbike tour options for visiting Son Tra Mountain, WITHOUT also visiting Marble Mountains? We'd like to do at least a little bit of hiking on Son Tra - not just visit the Lady Buddha statue. If a tour isn't a good idea, will it be easy to order a Grab from Son Tra back to Hoi An? Thanks!

Hi,
What monkeys do you see is it langur? Do you see a pagoda as well as the buddha? Has anyone done the trip from Hoi An using a car if so who through and how much please?
Thanks

I have to be honest, to me a monkey is a monkey. I’m not sure of the type and I didn’t ask.

Does it close at a certain time like marble mountain?
Written January 3, 2019
No closing time for visiting SonTra mountain. However you should not stay there too late because that is a deserted area. The best time for visiting there is in the early morning until before 5 pm in the dry season.

Since there are no lights along the way, its best to get down the mountain before sundown. There is no closing time.

Monkey Mountain is a considerable distance from Da Nang. Our hotel hired a driver for us who took us there and we called him as we were coming down on the cable car and he picked us up then took us on a drive along the coast road and up into the hills to the north. There are spectacular views over Da Nang. The driver hire was inexpensive - I think about 800000 VND for the day.

Thanks Owen - where did you rent the scooter from and start the trip?
Written March 14, 2018
How difficult is the ascent/descent by foot? Also if I'm going to mm in car, is it possible to hire scooter/driver at base of mountain? I was going to hike but now knee bothering me. Thank you!
Written February 5, 2018
We had a driver hired by our hotel who spoke good English.

Hi all,
I'm reading reviews of this and it sounds nice but I would much rather hike than hire a scooter, is this a hikeable walk for one day? How far is it? Is there an obvious place to get to in order to hike from there?
Thanks in advance!

Sure can!
Took me under 2 hours to get from beginning of trail to top of the mountain :)
Enjoy!
I used my GPS and walked from the women Buddha to the start of the trail... asked some locals along the way. Definitely go.
