I expected it to happen one day and this trip it became a reality. The old fish market has given way to hotel development. But seafood can still be brought from the many warungs down along the harbour. It's BBQ style. Fresh but expensive.

When we arrived little warungs were setting up and starting to serve. It was extremely hot and unfortunately lots of flies covering the fish on display. Ice was under the fish , but melted. Bit concerned by the poor condition of the grills , so we decided to give it a big miss to avoid stomach complications. Might be better when not so hot .

We walked the gauntlet of fish sellers and found one with some nice fresh fish. Look for clear eyes and red gills. It took a long time to cook our fish and squid, but it was inexpensive and delicious. The squid was tender and the sauce excellent. They give you rice and vegetables. There is some ticket system that we bypassed and just paid cash to our seller. Cheaper that way and the cooks like it better.

Went to the fish market in town for dinner. Realised that we were overcharged blatantly at the stall we patronised. Need to confirm price of fish / dishes you want, and if you know how to, select the fish that you want. The stall holder recommended a not so fresh fish and thought we would take it without knowing its quality! Also good to confirm the total price before you confirm all your orders before getting seated. The fish market area had a large convenient store where you could find most things you need for the trip. Prices were ok and for the sun block we need, it was cheaper than the convenient store along the town main street where you find many dive / tour shops and hotels.

Very nice place to find kinds of seafood in good price. Compared to restaurant in LBJ, this market is definitely worthy to visit more than once. They BBQ all the seafood and serve with rich and "vegetable".
