We walked the gauntlet of fish sellers and found one with some nice fresh fish. Look for clear eyes and red gills. It took a long time to cook our fish and squid, but it was inexpensive and delicious. The squid was tender and the sauce excellent. They give you rice and vegetables. There is some ticket system that we bypassed and just paid cash to our seller. Cheaper that way and the cooks like it better.

A must visit food vendors in Labuan Bajo, 20-30 stalls selling almost the same seafood.

Freah fish is about 40-50K each, squid os 50-80K.

Very delicious with grilled or cook with Indonesia paste.

My driver recommended this place. We got 2 fish, 2 plates of prawns. The fish was 80k each and the prawn was 170k. Rice was 20k i think, cant remember exactly.

Food was great, although the fish were slightly burnt by the charcoal but still tasted great. It was too much food for 2 of us and driver got some to take away home to his family.

Payment - well we have to use card to purchase. I went to the other stall and purchase food - without using card cos (temporary system problem) and i pay exactly the amount offered. With the card, i have to pay additional 10% for tax i think. So it's actually cheaper paying cash but the tenant must insist on payment with cards (tax contribution) than receiving cash.

Anyway they'll refund all your remaining balance and card deposit, so nothing to worry there.

Btw, try the fresh fruit juice stall. Its amazing!

Fresh food, a little bit pricey.

Make sure after selecting the seafood you want, ask them to give you the weight of the selected seafood and price upfront. Including all the side dishes, down to the rice and drinks. The stahl didn't provide menu with price.
Otherwise be careful, it's a trap!! Although seafood was fresh.

I expected it to happen one day and this trip it became a reality. The old fish market has given
way to hotel development. But seafood can still be brought from the many warungs down along the harbour. It's BBQ style. Fresh but expensive.

My friend had been in LBJ the week b4 and recommended we check it out. so we walked down to one of the stalls ( there are about 20 in all) picked out a 600gm parrot fish, 600gram red grouper, 3 squid and ask for the fish to be grilled and the squid to be deep fried. we also ordered fried kangkung. The bill was very cheap, 220,000 for the 2 fish, squid kangkung and 3 plates of rice. and we bought drinks from the supermarket across the street. There are sinks to wash your hands you eat next to the sea, the seafood is super fresh. only compliant is there at mosquitoes, so beware. I recommend Kedai Daeng, a stall right near the front. the sauce they put on the grilled fish is super delicious.

Amazing fresh fish. We had corn on the cob, calamari and a snapper. Its came to about 200k which we were happy enough with. You can get beer and coke from the supermarket across the street. Dont bother with the tickets just pay then in cash. That's what they want you to do

previously this fish market located along soekarno hatta road right beside the beach, but recently due to construction progress, the fish market moved temporary to yard/soccerfield near from origin place. still the best fish market for cheap and delicious dinner in Labuan bajo, you can select from various selection of fish, shrimp, squid and with you choice of grilled or fried. choices of sauce. price will be vary, depend on your bargain skill. i think for local, is way cheaper. price already include rice and vegetable. enjoy...

We had the most amazing delicious dinner of grilled mahi mahi with rice and some spicy chilli sauce with rice and an avocado smoothie. One of the more authentic places we have been to so far on this trip.
Definitely will come back.

Lots of dried fish so the smell can be quite overwhelming if you are not used to it. I always find fish markets interesting, this was none the less. First step of understanding a culture is understanding its food!
