DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We are currently in Labuan Bajo after a serious car accident with two people badly injured. This occurred during an on-land day as part of a 5 day/4 night tour. We and our guide had to make our own way back - a four hour mountainous drive. The company have not made contact with us. We have unsuccessfully tried to contact them by email and phone. Currently - right now - we have no idea what happens next. There is still one day of our tour to go. We are so concerned for our driver, guide, those injured and their families. We plan to follow up as to what care and responsibility Komodo Trans Wisata will take for any of the people involved. I will write more details of the tour generally when we return home.

We booked a cruise through Komoto Tours Adventure, aka Komodo Trans Wisata to Komodo Island on June 22, the last day of our honeymoon. They put us on a company called Alba tours. Our boat exploded while we were docked at Komodo Island. Members of the crew were injured and we watched our boat burn next to the dock on Komodo Island for hours waiting for another boat to come get us. It was super upsetting and we also missed half our tour. I emailed Marcelino Sunjaya of Komodo Tours for a refund (the tour was pricey, about US$450 for two of us), explaining we lost $1000 worth of possessions in the explosion (it was a day trip and we had a camera, Kindles, etc., on the boat) and was told that the dinner Alba provided after they finally got us back to Labuan Bajo covered the inconvenience of what had happened!!! He offered no sympathy, no apology. I had paid Komodo through PayPal and used PayPal to get my money back. He kept sending me rude, one-line emails asking me to stop my dispute with PayPal. AVOID at all costs.

Dear Fastcat1984. Komodo Trans Wisata is a travel agent which connects guests with local boats as sea transportation means used to visit various spots agreed upon. Not all travel agencies has such means, which is why they have such collaboration. What happen to you at Fast Boat belong to Alba Cruise was unexpected. Fortunately no life lost at the incident. Alba Cruise is responsible to change the speed boat for the remaining trips. The tour went well. For this incident the Alba Cruise provided dinner as compensation. The paypal payment dispute is settled. Paypal is the medium between both parties (you as Customer and me as Seller). Certainly paypal would not rush to decision in this case. You asked us to provide an explanation letter to claim your Insurance in your country. We provide the letter. This clarification is written so that the tourists could understand what had happened.

We've visit Komodo island and it was very unforgettable. The arrangement from Bali to Labuan Bajo was so smooth and the boat trip to Komodo Island from Labuan Bajo was so awesome. My wife and my children really enjoyed the trip. The timing was good and the service on the boat was also very satisfying. The beauty of the small islands alongside the boat, the clean blue sea and the friendliness of the crew made us enjoyed the trip the most. We can't wait to visiting Komodo again this year.

To begin with, I contacted several tour groups and settled on this one as email replies came faster and with more details than the other groups. Knowing what I know now, I would have stayed at a hotel and paid the extra money to join a speedboat tour to/ from the smaller islands, rather than doing a live-aboard situation (unless you're going to spend the money for a nice boat). I would like to echo other comments - the boat accommodation was quite poor. The only place to sit on the boat outside the cabin was two crude wooden benches that were so uncomfortable we ended up bringing out our bedding during the day to make them tolerable. :( This is where you spend the vast majority of your day and eat all your meals, FYI! They also didn't mention they don't provide towels! Fortunately, we did pack beach towels which we also used for our showers. The bathroom on the boat is NOT a flush toilet but a bucket system and the shower is a lower pressure spritz of cold water. They ran out of toilet paper, and said they would not get more as they only provide 2 rolls. (4 staff and 2 customers for 3 days...). In general the accommodations are so basic, it feels like camping, which is not what we were expecting for the money we paid (1200 USD for 4n/5d). The itinerary provided by email did not match the one followed by the guide. It would have been nice to have been updated on these things, or provided with relevant updates when we landed. We liked our tour guide well enough, but their were some miscommunication with the office and our requests... etc. The crew themselves (while they spoke no English) were very kind! It was obvious they wanted to help, and they did go out of their way to accommodate any requests we had. I wish I had known ahead of time that we would be asked to tip all of them, as I didn't have much cash on me. One thing to keep in mind, this is a tourist destination in its infancy! There are very few places that cater to western comforts. We found solace at the Happy Banana restaurant & Pirate Beach Club, opting to pay for dinner over the included meal at our hotel. Lastly, I had made VERY CLEAR we were vegetarian (no eggs) in several emails - and they assured me this was catered for. However they served chicken, fish and eggs while aboard - leaving us with very little we could eat. We later heard this was a mix up with the Tour Manager who told the wrong boat to provide vegetarian food, and the other customers complained they only had tofu to eat for 3 days (sort of funny - although annoying at the time).

Our original tour with another company got cancelled due to weather so we called Visit Komodo Tours the day before, and somehow Boni was able to make it all happen the following day. Got to see 8 Komodo dragons, which is what we came to Labuan Bajo for. Thanks for making it happen on such short notice. Harry and the boat crew were very good. Pieter and Kylie.
