As the meaning of its name, literally “Flying fish”, you will be amazed by the impressive cruising speed of this schooner, built following the ancestral methods of the “Bugis” people of Sulawesi. Come and enjoy your privacy within Ikan Terbang's intimate cabin space, for up to 10 guests. Inside and outside, in the sun or in the shade, cosy and comfortable spaces for recreation are waiting for you. Lay back in this unique surroundings, as the wind fills the sails, and the bow slides gently through the waves.

One of the best travel experiences ever
Oct 2014
We (2 adults and our teenager) booked a 2-night private charter to go to Komodo Island and to do snorkelling. The owner Bruno is a bit eccentric but a great host, and his wife is lovely, and they were eager to tailor the trip to our interests. It is impossible to adequately describe some of the amazing things we saw. The highlight was definitely swimming with the giant mantas. There were so many of them, huge, all swimming right around us. I felt like they were playing chicken at times, swimming straight on and then turning at the last minute. A bit terrifying but exhilarating. Also seeing the komodo dragons was fantastic – because we were anchored nearby we got there earlier than the day-trippers and the park was not at all crowded. And we saw a lot of dragons with many quite close - again terrifying but exhilarating. The snorkelling was a lot of fun, especially a drift snorkel in a pretty strong current. So many colorful fish! Some sharks and turtles too. They can also take you diving I think. The food was amazing, tasty and plentiful. You must realise, however, that this is not a luxury yacht. You spend most of the time on the smallish deck, eating and sleeping (there is a cabin but much nicer outside), going to bed shortly after dark and getting up with the sun. The toilet is basic and not overly private, and showering is discouraged due to limited water supply. But luxury accommodations are not what this is all about. Re Labuan Bajo/Flores, where the boat departs from –this is not Bali; it is still quite undeveloped, and the airport service seems to be quite erratic. Our return flight was cancelled, seemingly for no reason, and the communication from the staff there was appalling. So make sure you aren’t on a tight schedule in terms of flight connections.

Perfect relaxation
Aug 2014 • Family
If you are in need of a couple of relaxing day this is for you. The boat is very rustic so do not expect an glitzy cruise. The best option is to sleep outside on deck anyway (even though inside beds are provided).

Bruno and his wife Fanny - a french couple that owns the boat - and their local skipper/cook and mechanic are very nice hosts. Be prepared to eat a lot of good food (especially fish) on your trip. The great thing is that you will NOT be where everone else is and when they are all there so for example you will see the dragons in the morning before the boats from Labuan Bajo arrive (and the dragons might run for cover).

If you like diving this is a nice add-on but this is not primarily a diving cruise so you will do just one dive a day which was perfect for us. The rest of the time is spent swimming and snorkeling, visiting the dragons and the people of Rinca village.

Great Cruise in a wonderful location
Apr 2014 • Family
We have spent a great time during our 5 days cruise back in may. The boat is really nice, and ideal for a family of five. The crew was fantastic. Thanks to them, we were able to spot some wild Komodo dragons, snorkel with manta rays, and scuba dive with a lion fish. The food was great (crepes for breakfast, excellant seafood and much more)! We were even able to sleep on the deck at night, which was fantastic!
Surely one of the best options to visit Komodo, and meet the fantastic wildlife!

Booking price increased and then cancelled at last minute
Apr 2014 • Friends
Several months ago we had arranged and booked the Ikan Terbang boat for 3 Day 2 Night tour to Rinca and Komodo for four adults, on a private basis, starting April 23. We had arranged this through a tour operator in Jakarta who was in communication with the manager of the Ikan Terbang.

On April 7 we were notified by our tour operator in Jakarta who had a confirmed reservation with the Ikan Terbang manager early on, that the boat was no longer available at the rate that we were quoted and gave a rate about USD 600 higher. With no other options at this late date we agreed, only to find out that the boat was now no longer available. We then had to make major revisions to our itinerary resulting in additional costs.

In looking at the Ikan Terbang website and availability now, it shows:
12th April to 17th May Komodo National Park Land and Sea Full

So I can only assume that someone else came along and booked the boat for a long period of time, taking our reservation!

We were very disappointed and wanted to caution anyone who uses this boat.

I m really sorry for what happen to you but for me if I have received a demand of information for a cruise with the Ikan Terbang few months ago from your travel agency, at this time the Ikan Terbang was free and we work with a number of travel agency) I never got later from your agency any confirmation (and either any deposit) for this cruise so for me this booking was normally abandoned. For the prices, my prices are fixed and only just re-adjusted a little every year in December. You can check my prices on my web sites and you don’t have to pay more or less than theses prices, they must be the same for everybody. I think that the problem is from your travel agency, please, check with them, may be it was a misunderstood between them, you and me?. Sure, i m going to check now what really has happened and if you want i can take you inform

What a brilliant 3 days!
Mar 2014 • Friends
I had my parents visiting me in Indonesia from London and we spent 3 fantastic days with Bruno and Fanny on Ikan Terbang. The scenery in Flores is of course incredible and with the help of Bruno's staff who cooked delicious meals (often seafood bought that day) and kept the drinks flowing, it was always going to be a great long weekend. However, what made it a truly unforgettable one was having Bruno's knowledge of the area - that meant we avoided the places where the other boats went and found our own beautiful islands (white sand, perfect blue water, amazing coral to explore) and felt like we had the run of the place. He knew the best times to see the dragons to avoid the crowds, the best spots for snorkeling or diving and did all this without being controlling/bossy - but, like Fanny, a very interesting sailing companion and great fun to be around. Thank you!

Gorgeous boat, amazing wildlife and scenery!
Sep 2013
3 days on Bruno's stunning boat Ikan Terbang sailing around the Komodo National Park was just perfect. (Although 4 days would be better if you have the time as the tides can somewhat dictate your destinations.)
Having travelled extensively in Indonesia, I think this is one of the country's most majestic and untouched destinations. The landscape is natural and beautiful. We saw dolphins, komodo dragons, swam with manta rays, sharks, many fish and a turtle. We hiked up hills to take in the views and snorkelled in lovely clear, warm water. There are 2 great areas on the boat for relaxing also so you can sit in the shade and take in the views or get a bit of a tan in the glorious sunshine.
Bruno would wake us up for a beautiful sunrise to start our activities with the best coffee in indonesia! The food (3 meals + snacks) on the boat is delicious.
Make sure you bring wine though as only beer is available.
I recommend you book with Bruno for a very enjoy experience in Komodo. He is a great host with the best boat on the water!

Great 3 days cruise in the Komodo sea
Aug 2013 • Couples
Looking for a elegant but "family feeling" cruise departing from Labuan Bajo ? Would like to match the must see Komodo dragons tour with some of the gretaest snorkeling of your life ? Afraid to be packed in one of the many standardized and overcrowded tour ? Well, Bruno and his gorgeous boat (the "Ikan Terbang", meaning 'jumping fish' in Bahasa Indonesia) can perfectly cater all these needs. Skipper for passion, the French former geologist Bruno accomodates up to 6 people in a 17 metres sailing wooden boat, the kind that we are used to see in the pirates Hollywood movies. The boat appears elegantly furnished whitout being too luxurious, and the cruise itself is perfectly organized whilst keeping a genuine and informal atmosphere that immediatley make you feel at ease. I and my better half departed on 19th of August for a 3 days cruise booked via e-mail long before, and everything has been up to the best expectations we had (of course, being the only two guests to enjoy the entire boat also helped, but the overall experience can be anyway the highlight of any Indonesian holiday). The tour was planned in advance by Bruno and his team of 2 people in order to satisfy the average needs, but there is plenty of room to ask for changes and to customize it; for instance, we told Bruno we would love to see Manta rays and he (succesfully) did his best to please us. And as if Manta rays was not enough, we had also snorkelling with turtles, sharks, dolphins and fishes of any size and colours. And prepare to other nice surprises involving bats at sunset (seemed to be in a National Geographic doc !), trekking up to hills in a secluded island, swimming in crystal clear waters, visit to almost isolated communities of people only reachable by climbing shaky bridges, etc....all in all the visit to dragons in Rinca island can b considered as a relatively small break ! But, most important, you will not feel compelled to do anything: if you just want to relax and enjoy the cruise, no problem at all, Bruno will discreetly understand it and relax and enjoy the cruise with you (he really likes the trip along with his guests and try to satisfy them). Food was another good surprise, considering you are in a boat with a small kitchen: 3 complete meals per day (including pancake for breakfast and always pasta or rice, salads, fruits, fish, etc.) plus nice touches like fried bananas and...Nutella !! Soft drinks, beers and water also always at hand free of charge. The captain-cook Mitha, together with the other staff member Pieter, do a great job with their presence that, however, always preserved our privacy. At night we could choose to sleep in the bed inside or in the large cushions outside (that we actually didn't cause the morning breeze can be a little too cool); in any case, we enjoyed living (even for for 3 days) according to the rythm of nature: wake up with sunrise, going to sleep soon after sunset, take a bath directly in the sea (though the boat has a small shower with fresh water and a toilet), a nap after launch...
To conclude, we highly recommend this tour because of the wonderful natural sites that are almost unique in the world, possibly with Ikan Terbang that left us a lasting memorable experience. Thank you again Bruno !
