Booked full day Komodo tour with Alba Cruise as recommended to us by our hotel. We had 14 in our group and had the medium sized speed boat which had plenty of space.

Our tour guide Alberto was brilliant at giving us information, making sure we stuck to the timings of the day and taking pictures for us - couldn’t have asked for a better guide.

This tour is great as we got to cover a lot of different sights in one day and we arrived at each place before the bigger tour groups so had prime photo opportunities.

If you want to book a Komodo tour I would highly recommend Alba Cruise as you get excellent service and guide for a great price. Only downside was the lunch on board was very basic but unlimited free bottles of water provided and a snack.

We took the full day trip package and the guide was extremely helpful since they explained everything in English. From our trip to Padar island, Komodo island, Taka Makassar, Manta point and Kanawa island, it was very satisfying. If I would ever go to Labuan Bajo again, I would definitely pick Alba Cruise as my number one option.

All of 20 passengers agreed with me, we love it. Professional, well taken care of, good safety feature. You will not be disappointed.

We booked the tour directly to their Facebook (sent a message). It is better to book directly as you deal with the owner not an agent. He will take care of you. We chose them due to the bigger boat, new, excellent reviews. The boat can fit up to 33 people, but they cap it to about 20-21 people for safety reason.

They picked us up from our hotel up the hill at 5:30 am, departed from the port at 6 am. Since I booked directly, I paid him at the port. Every guests got a bracelet, to easily identify us among the sea of tourists.

We went to padar island first, boy the waves were huge. You are thankful to book the tour with them. Every seat has a life jacket underneath. Guest can sit outside on the back one person at the time, take turn. The boat has a bathroom.

It was an amazing hike to padar island. Few staffs followed us to the top. Going back to the boat, we were given a snacks of 2 strawberry jam slightly filled buns, and one banana. It's a green color banana but inside it is ripen.

Then Komodo island, please bring some cash as you need to pay for national park fees and rangers' fees. We went weekday, paid for IDR 250,000 per person. Local fees is IDR 75,000. I believe weekend fees is IDR 350,000.

Lucky we got to see 8 Komodo dragons. We even took a picture behind a big dragon near the rangers' house - all of us were not sure first, but the ranger assured us, he Mr. Usman, took pictures for everyone in our boat using our camera/iPhone. Amazing picture!

On the way to pink beach, a lunch was served. One option, rice with sautéed veggies and cooked tuna in a container like airplane food. Inside the boat they have a toaster oven to reheat it. Don't you like to have a hot lunch, I do.

Third stop: pink beach. There are 2 pink beaches on Komodo island. One has a strong current. The other one has some, but not as strong. If you do not want to jump and swim to the beach, you can take a tiny boat for a transfer with a fee of IDR 20,000 per person. This is not part of the tour package. So please bring some extra cash to pay if you do not/can't swim. Several of us dumped our cameras, towels to a wet bag, and pitched in the cost of IDR 20,000 for one of us to be in the boat carrying our stuffs. Win win situations.

The corals are gorgeous, not so much fish. Be aware of the current.

Last stop: kanaka island, a private island. There is a dock so no more jumping to the water. The corals are not as great as pink beach, more fish by the dock, a lot of sea urchin, and cushion star fish closer to the shore. Please snorkel to the lett if you start swimming from the beach, the right side is not good, dead corrals.

Tips:
1. Book directly to them. There were some issues with 8 passengers who booked thru perama tour. They didn't tell the name of the guests to be picked up at their hotel, alba's driver and the hotel staffs were having hard time to find who booked it. And perama told them at a later time which caused us to have a late start.
2. No flip flops, sandals for hiking padar island. Two of us broke their sandals. Please wear hiking or trails shoes or sneakers/runner shoes.
3. It is super hot hiking padar, grab a bottled water, light on personal stuffs to bring
4. I saw two young children hiked up, one of them was 8 years old. Yes you can bring your children but watch them closely as going down is super dangerous, loosen rocks and dirt path, some of us fell.
5. When book directly, please tell Mario your shoes size, he will find a set of flippers for you. Don't expect him to provide it. It is not included in the price. But he will try to provide it for you. If you book thru perama. They should provide you with snorkeling equipments that fits you. The problem was that perama didn't communicate well with Mario, and some of us were expected him, which was not his fault.
6. Please let them know ahead of time of your dietary. They can arrange a vegetarian meal.
7. They bought another smaller boat that cater the need of half a day tour. Maiden trip mid of August to end of August to rinca island and one beach for snorkeling. Price is IDR 750,000 per person.
8. Highly recommended this. It is a little bit higher but you have a peace of mind if you bring your children with you or your concerns for safety.

“We’re sure you do not come from faraway land just to spend your precious time floating on the sea instead of doing the real activity on the destination spot.”

That’s what they say on their website. Ironic considering “floating on the sea” in the middle of nowhere, at night, is exactly what we did when their boat lost both engines. I think this company has a high score on TripAdvisor because of they were probably good when they started in 2016. Unfortunately I believe they are now driven by profit and they clearly do not maintain their boats or care about safety. Don’t bother with them. If you want a terrible experience, at least pay 3 times less with one of the other random operators in town.

Day started with one engine shutting down right after departure. Crew called management and assured we would change boat. However management seemed to change its mind so after one hour and a half of tinkering we departed with the same boat. As you would expect, engine 1 failed mid-day so we then travelled with a boat slower than the wooden boats which cost 3 times less. After awhile, engine 2 broke down when night had already fallen. So we were stuck on water while the crew tried to fix the engine with a pair of scissors and a phone as torchlight... I visited at the end of July. Reading the other reviews, apparently this mechanical issue has been ongoing since June and they don’t seem to have fixed it... Yet they still depart every day. Very irresponsible and dangerous.

Speaking of safety, I don’t think this tour is suited for young children or the elderly. Sometimes you have to climb up another boat, or the pier, and jump down to yours just to embark and disembark. All this on slippery surfaces.

Don’t expect AC because it worked for 10 minutes before breaking. Don’t expect a guide either, he only announces where we have arrived.

The only redeeming value is the beauty of the destinations but I guess praise should be given to Komodo National Park rather than Alba Cruise. Even then, Kanawa island could have been skipped as there is nothing to see and we were already behind schedule by 2 hours and night was falling (remember when I mentioned we were stuck on sea at night after that?). I think they have a contract with the bar over there, to bring tourists.

Please, please do not book with the company if you want any kind of value for money. We forked out over $145 AUD per person (booking cost plus $250000ird National Park pass) which is SO expensive for Asia. I assumed we would be paying extra for an incredible day.
I am backpacking around Asia with my boyfriend and we wanted to do a day trip on a faster boat to see most of the highlights in the area. We were recommended this company by our accomodation (who knows why!) and you would think we would know better to read the reviews before we committed... we wish we had. I am not a snob and I do not expect too much when it comes to day trips however this was the WORST booking I have ever made.

If you want to explore the Islands with a view from your boat, fresh air (or any sort of air!!), have the opportunity to sit outside, use clean or any kind of snorkel and fins to see mantas/coral/fish etc, and go on a working speed boat - then DO NOT book with the company.

Negatives include:
1. The boat has no windows that open, they are also glazed with sun shade stickers so you literally cannot see any of the breathtaking surroundings as you drive through the scenery.
2. No windows, AC does not work, 24 hot bodies inside a small cabin = boiler room. We managed to sit out back a lot but it can only fit about 4-5 people and everyone else was stuck inside a sweat box. It was so HOT. Also room stinks of diesel (too be fair I didn’t have an issue with that as it’s kind of standard with old boats in Asia but if you are sensitive to that kind of thing then avoid - actually just avoid this company like the plague anyway!). Did I mention how HOT it was???
3. One motor broke half way though the day. We assumed a one off but read past reviews when we got back and other people have complained of the same problem on separate days - clearly an ongoing issue which they are just not fixing properly and know is a problem as they continuously book people in for day trips in a “speed boat” which turns into a boat that gets overtaken by the slow boat tours... (also note - reviews of a boat catching on fire..).
4. Once we arrived at Manta Point we realised there were about 5 pairs of fins (for 24 people) and only around 15 working mask and snorkels (again, 24 people!). Some snorkels had mould or something (!!!!) growing in the mouth piece and many didn’t even allow you to breathe through them in the water. The boat also allowed people to jump off once we saw some rays and then took off when the rays swam away leaving some people to swim almost 100m back to the boat. Not OK if some people are not strong swimmers as there are major currents in that area too. Cue a lot of very HOT, scared and frustrated people.

Once we arrived at our 5 destinations the scenery was breathtaking - it is such a gorgeous part of the world. It is such a shame that this tour could put such a damper on the experience.
The crew were nice also, but they also knew that they had to make do with a broken boat and you could tell they were stressed about it. I actually felt bad for them. Management of Alba Cruise needs to seriously sort their company out. Boat maintenance would be a good start - it’s really not hard.

I hope I can spare anyone else who was in my position to not make the same mistake we did.

They picked us up one hour late with a subleased small boat where there was not sufficient space for us. They forgot the snorkeling gears, so we did not visit one spot. The food was horrible. When people complained to the tour leader, he told us that he was not actually working for Alba Cruise because he was working on a freelance basis. He promised us that someone from Alba Cruise will be waiting for us at Prima Hotel to give us explanations. But when we arrived there, anyone gave us any explanation. I cannot recommend this company. Please try to book your trip with Alexandria, it will be definitely better.

We had an incredible day tour with hiking to the top on Padar island for amazing views, a pink sand beach for snorkeling, Komodo Island to see the dragons, Manta Point for snorkeling with Manta Rays, another stop on a beautiful beach island to chill and then our last stop on one more island to snorkel. Snacks, water and meals were provided and the staff was fantastic. I would highly recommend this tour. We packed a lot in one day but it was not rushed.

The crew were great. The boat, well what can you say. It was fast but stuffy. It is sealed and the air conditioner runs off a generator that spews fumes in through the only door at the rear.

This was rarely a problem because it was locked shut FROM THE OUTSIDE. How DUMB.

We had really bad seas on the way home and while we returned safely the safety on board needs a review. A tour boat sank the day before....

Getting on amd off is not for the physically challenges. It is a boat ..yes.. but this is the worst design for exit and entrance. See the photo. The new boat may solve this.

We were given vouchers for dinner if we wrote a review after the bad trip. A nice touch.we thought. NOT... Perhaps an inducement to write reviews as the menu we could select from was printed and laminated for the company.

So good try but rather buy my own dinner and write a truthful review.

The lunch was substandard for the price

If you are in Labuan Bajo, ALBA TOUR'S Sunset Cruise is a MUST do. Here's my 100% honest experience, no sugarcoating.

Agenda day trip to... 1) A small island to do a 10 minute uphill hike to take lovely pictures. Tip: walk slow because it's a makeshift path with rocks and sand that can slide. Had a quick swim in the warm water. 2) Next visited a nice spot to snorkel. My wife and I aren't great swimmers, but they provided lifejackets and these fantastic new snorkels that allow you 2 breathe through your nose. We saw beautiful fish and the coral. Alberto (our guide) and another crewmate swam with us and we always felt safe. Snorkeled for about 15-20 minutes. 3) To Rinca Island to see the Komodo Dragons. Very well organized. Always felt safe. Chris (our Komodo guide) was wonderful and very knowledgeable. We saw 7 Komodo Dragons that varied in size. It was a dream of mine to even see just 1, so to see 7 was an added bonus. Price was RP's 310.000. 4) Saw a beautiful sunset from the upper deck of the boat. 5) Witnessed the 'flying foxes' at sunset leaving their mangrove trees to get food from Flores fruit trees. These things were massive bats and it was a sight to behold...and then we returned home. We left around 12:15 and arrived at 8:15pm.

Now the crew. They were fantastic! We met Alberto (our main guide) & Tasman (a guide in training. They were both so kind and generous. We shared stories with each other, and they taught us a lot about each location we visited and about Indonesia. One of them was always near by and we always felt in good hands. The rest of the gentleman were all very kind, unfortunately we didn't get a chance to directly interact with each of them. But they were always smiling, polite, and very accommodating if we needed anything.

The food was top notch as well. We were offered water right away and could ask for as much water as we wanted. We had a lovely lunch with chicken, rice, and vegetables. Here's where they really stepped up. We had forgotten to mention that my wife doesn't eat meat, only fish. We were fine accepting our error, and mentioned for dinner if there could be a vegetarian/fish option. They instantly went back and made her a wonderful dish with tempe and vegetables. That's how you treat your guests! Very well done!

We had a midday snack with either choice of coffee or tea, and 3 different desserts. I had all 3 and they were all delicious.

Dinner was rice, a whole white snapper covered with lemon grass, onions, and garlic (I think) for each guest. Then for dessert we had a mango gelatin dish. Everything was delicious! Saw everyone's plates empty at the end of the meal. Good sign.

Random thoughts...Alba Tours has a shuttle vehicle that will pick you up from your hot. The wood boat is brand new and quite lovely. You can sit around the wood table on the ride or go to the lovely open upper deck with bean bags chairs to relax and view the beauty. The bathroom has a western style toilet (toilet paper provided), which is always a bonus. There was cool music playing on the stereo, and a charger to charge your phone. There was a sink to wash your hands. The crew enjoyed taking pictures of us. This is great for my wife and I because it's usually a picture of one or the other. Haha.

In conclusion, ALBA TOUR was a TOP NOTCH experience, 100% recommended to anyone that wants to have a fantastic memorable 1 day experience rather than those multiple day sleep outings; which personally are not for me.

We now have beautiful pictures, fantastic memories, and made some great acquaintances. Thank you ALBA TOURS! Keep up the great work. Best of luck to you all. If you keep this level of customer service up you'll have a flourishing future!

Terima Kasih!

Terrible. Boat arrived 1.5 hours late for pickup without any call to myself or the resort to let me know.
Boat is only large enough for around 10 people inside and had a couple of us had to sit outside.
Manager was very rude on the phone, and argued that 14 people can fit inside. Snowwhite and the 7 dwarfs would have felt cramp in there.
Lunch was small and tasteless
Boat had an overpowering smell of fuel throughout the trip, making people who were inside feel nauseous
