Came here with the girlfriend and 2 kids for a day trip as all the accommodation was booked out over the New Year period. It's definitely worth the drive up the mountain to walk amongst the clouds and enjoy the spectacular view!
There are numerous restaurants to enjoy a feed and drink and also well priced souvenir shops that have an assortment of trinkets and Mon Jam themed clothes to take home. This felt like more of a local holiday destination for Thai's which I really liked.
Can definitely recommend as a day trip or if you are lucky enough to even spend the night in one of the many tents/huts that are scattered across the mountainside.
If you are looking to stay make sure you book early though and also remember that traffic up and down the mountain can get extremely busy!

I've seen pictures of Mon Jam but didn't quite know which specific places to visit in the area, and so just left it to my guide and driver to bring me to places of interest. He brought me to a government run agro park, which was really a collection of small vegetable and flower farms. While the farms themselves were nothing extraordinary, the view was. Just clear blue skies and mountains of green, it was nothing short of breathtaking. Walking around, some of the farms and cafes ask for a modest entrance fee, which I obliged. They grew beautiful flowers, provided fantastic views, and were great photo ops. Many visitors simply ordered coffee, sat down, and enjoyed the view. It was a morning spent just walking around, with nothing in mind, but yet one of the most fulfilling.

You can actually book shared ac rides form Chiang Mai to Mon Jam and back. They pick up to the place you are staying in Mon Jam from near Wororot Market, Chiang Mai. They charge THB 150 per person one way (Taxi/Songthaew takes THB 600 minimum and you can't book per head). This information is available mostly in Thai.
Hope it helps.

The views are fantastic but many of the terraces are now covered with camping and glamping areas so that some of it now resembles a space station on a faraway planet. However, it's very popular particularly with Thai tourists but I can't help feeling that the local environment has been adversely affected by presumably an easier way of making money for the landowners.
It's a great drive getting there with magnificent views of the mountainous countryside. We thought the best features were the local market and some flower fields. The market sold local fruit and vegetables with some of the finest avocados we have tasted. Persimmons, oranges and pomegranates also were available. Cheap and very tasty!
One other feature we had mixed feelings about were the children dressed in the local hill tribe clothes but really only there to get money from tourists by having there photographs taken. A number of them didn't look particularly happy and probably wanted to be doing other things than posing with some tourist.
Would we go again?...probably not.

Mon Jam is a stunning place. Great view, great nature.
Having said that, I would really see this more as a place to go for food, especially lunch. The food is very good quality and price appropriately for the stunning views you get (food:100-200Baht, drinks: 30Baht). Best is to leave Chiang Mai at around 11:30 to get to Mon Jam at 1pm. Then have a bit of a walk and get some great lunch.
Some people say that they rode a motorbike to get to Mon Jam. I have to say: it is quite a steep ride and nothing really for the unexperienced. I got a red taxi/bus and paid 800Bath for the tour there and back which took about 4h altogether (I'm a pretty bad negotiator so I guess you should get this ride for 700Bath ^^).
If you miss this you haven't really been to Chiang Mai :)

All I can say is we went at 5 am and it is worth the drive up the mountain. You take a local truck up the mountain and watch the mist go across the valley and drink locally grown tea hot from a Chinese cooking kettle.

Short 1 hour drive from Chiang Mai brings you to this hidden gem known to locals only.
Beautiful sunflower garden with awesome views. Excellent coffee, food and cake! Enjoy sipping coffee at the pavilion overseeing gorgeous mountain views while hanging out your feet at the pavilion - what more can you ask for!
Place is really crowded on weekends so recommend weekdays. Parking is limited.
You can also opt to camp overnight at mon Indao. Sleep in a tent for (500-700 baht) with probably noisy party neighbours or better wooden cabin for 1000+. You can also enjoy mookata outside your tent. (1 set good for 2 @ 400baht) Very romantic and cooling at night. Enjoy the sunset / sunrise.
Toilet facilities are very good with hot shower and very clean.
This is my favourite place to retreat from Chiang Mai.

The management will install fresh plants and nice array of flowers from the start of winter (late October to November). They will partially maintain those conditions until the end of winter season. Besides, late February is the start of our infamous burning season. So there will be smog and smoke hovering entire northern region. For those who really want to visit our lovely mountains and jungles, please avoid visiting from February to May each year.
Hidden gem recommendation: hike or ride for 2.5km from Mon jam to Mon Long, which is the highest point of the district. Breathtaking view you can see Lamphun province from there. Additionally, there’s something for history bluff to lean about the Ancient Lanna kingdom 1400 years ago.

We drove there by our rental bike from the city in Chiang Mai, the way to get to the hill was quite slope and narrow. You need to be careful, if you will driving there. There were many good local home-stays and restaurants along the way in the mountains as well. We rented a room in Mon Jam for around THB2500 for 1 night, the room was simple with private bathroom and balcony where you can see stunning view. Nothing much to do there, just to relax and enjoy the nature. In the morning the weather was quite cold, and quite before the time many outside tourists arry. They also got a restaurant there, the food was ok, not so many choice. The price was not cheap or too expensive. Also, they don’t accept any card there, just cash. Please be prepared, because the ATM is down the hill. We had to drove down the hill to get money and to buy drink and snack for the night. So, if you are planning to stay there long please make sure you got everything you need before get to the Mon Jam.

Mon Jam is really just an overlook spot, but there are a couple places to eat and get snacks. Generally in Thailand everything is open on Sundays.

Hello All,
My Wife and I are visiting Chiang Mai for a few days as part of our Thailand honeymoon in August, I really like the idea of popping up to Mon Jam during our stay - My question is this;
1. Has anyone been there in August? if so is it still a vibrant as the reviews suggest it is at other times.
2. Getting up there, We both like some freedom when we travel and are considering hiring a scooter for the day. would this be advisable for this journey/in general?
Thank you for taking the time to read

I've not been there in August but agree with the other reviewer that it could be in the clouds and if so there'll be not much of a view. As for getting there, wouldn't advise scooter as it can get pretty steep. Unless the scooter is pretty powerful which I doubt - well, it is CM if you know what I mean. Plus you'll probably take a much longer time.

May I know any entrance fee to Mon Jam or need any booking? Thanks

There is no entrance fee. If you would like to stay overnight you will need to book a tent in advance. The restaurant, the camping, and the garden are own by the same landlord.
If you are not in the rush, I would recommend to spend one night there, the scenery (sun rise/sun set/city light overlook) is fantastic at the private camping ground.
I made my reservation directly by phone..
Hope it's help.
