Near Svinita - in the Danube Gorges - you shall find the sunken fortress of "Tricule".
Built by the lords of Banat, somewhere between the XIIth and XVth century as part of the fortification systems that was bound to stop the ottoman expansion, today only 2 of its towers can be seen rising above the waters of the Danube.
As you drive in the direction of Svinita along the road DN57 you will see the 2 towers rising from the Danube - used to be 3 but the 3rd collapsed about a century ago. Stopping for a few pics it is not the easiest, since it is no stopping area so you need to find a way to "legally" park your car. However it is definitely worth it.
Unfortunately except from a few efforts - that can be seen on the towers - it is not much done to preserve this relic of pats centuries and it is just a matter of time until this 2 remaining towers would be swallowed by the mighty Danube.
If you drive through the area I recommend you stop for a few minutes at "Tricule" , no 1 can say for sure for long the 2 towers will be still there.

Trei Cule, Svinița, built between XIth - XVIth century. There are three towers (which explains the name, Three Towers), actually, but one was covered by the waters of Danube when the Iron Gates dam was built.

Trei Cule - Three Towers - they were built between XIth and XVIth century. Right now, you can see only two towers, as one is covered by the Danube waters.
