Being the family name we were desperate to visit Lake O' Hara but it was difficult getting consistent information about visiting. With only 30 bus places a day it's nearly impossible to get there by bus. We eventually found out you could do the 11km uphill walk but there was no guarantee of getting a place on the bus back... The trails are lovely. They do have hikers during the summer season, but nothing like what is happening next door in Banff. Be aware that some of the alpine hikes require decent hiking shoes and poles. The campground is billed as "backcountry". It is not - there's 2 kitchen buildings, and all the campsites are closely located together surrounding a... More

Hiking here is a highlight of my year, book in advance if you want to take the bus in the summer months and save your energy to hike around the lake and discover Oesa, McArthur, Cathedral.

The lake is very beautiful. I had to take the 11 km walk up to the location and I was glad I did. The reservation system is quite snobby and even if there are spaces left over I had some hiker say they were turned away from paying cash. The lake is overhyped so temper your expectations and you will... More

We were lucky enough to be able to get reservations at Lake O'Hara Lodge and so we spent 3 days exploring this incredible area. The hiking here is the best I've ever experienced. Various routes for all levels. We had our 11 and 7 year old daughters with, but we still routinely hiked 5-7 miles and were able to do... More

This is not an easy place to visit! The lake is 11 km from the main road. You can hike in or book a bus trip. The bus trips are purposely limited and it is difficult to get prearranged passage: we tried for 3 years until we were successful. It was worth the wait. Be prepared: wear good shoes, dress... More

It is getting more difficult to get a reservation to take the bus up to the lake. And the word on the street is that they will not be selling any standby bus tickets the day off. Also people should know that if you walk up, there is no guarantee that you will be able to get a bus ride... More
