This place is a true gem, a most intimate, beautiful, richly decorated church that lets you feel connected to something... whether it is to your spiritual self, to the people who for centuries have had the pleasure to enter this wonderful place of worship, to the artists who gave the best of their art to share it generously with generations to come.... after almost 20 years in Italy, this is among my definite favourites... together with the Duomo of San Francesco in Assisi, San Clemente in Rome....

Ps. Do remember to turn the lights on before entering... the 2€ are well spent!!

My great great grandparents were married here. Beautiful pastoral lands all around. You can feel the rich Italian history here.

Very nice church in the middle of the mountains. It is painted from both outside and inside, which makes it very beautiful and interesting. The style inside is very rich, paintings on the walls are everywhere and, with a lot of golden details all around the place.

The first time I was in Baceno, two years ago, the church was closed and I was on my way to see the Orridi di Urrizo so I took a quick look around the impressive exterior and went on my way. This time around, my husband, my young daughter and I went back specifically to see the church interior. Wow! The quality of the frescos is very impressive and it is full of new images to discover at every turn. The crucifixion to the right of the main altar is a work that bears a long look to fully enjoy all of the details.
Although the interior was not so interesting for my 7 year old, she loved walking around the outside and looking at the clock faces on the walls and the fabulous stone work around the doors that included lions and mermaids :). I loved the smaller, almost hidden exterior frescoes and the little bits of what looked like grafitti by the painter's helpers!
Certainly worth a visit just to see it and an easy stop if you're interested in taking the hike through the nearby slot canyons.
