the Museum of Cultures of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups is an outstanding attraction that provides a fascinating and educational experience for visitors of all ages. With its informative exhibits, attention to detail, and welcoming atmosphere, it's no wonder that this museum is considered one of the top cultural attractions in the country. I was very happy to discover ethnic minorities in Vietnam that brought me a new sky of knowledge.

I had wanted to do the museum on our drive to Ban Gioc Falls, unfortunately, no one had informed us its closes for lunch at 11 am. We reached here at 10:40 and were allowed inside without any tickets as they said they will be closing in 20 minutes. The exhibits were excellent having an extensive collection of agricultural, handicraft and hunting tools along with clothes and decorative motifs of different ethnic minorities. There must have been thousands of exhibits, showing life-size modelling of villagers and local residence, doing farming, gathering on market days, eating and drinking and celebrations. Still, due to no time and unavailability of a guide, we were not really able to understand and appreciate them. The museum also has an excellent garden and outdoor exhibits. Really waste we were not able to enjoy it.
The Museum is opened on Tuesday to Sunday from 8 to 11a.m and 2 to 4:30 p.m.

We visited the museum and had an english speaking guide. If you go, I suggest you get a guide. The information is in Vietnamese, French and English but you learn so much more from a guide.
The ethnic museum in Hanoi is much larger but this one has lots of information and examples of the homes for the different ethnic groups.
Definitely a place to visit.

If you are in the area you must visit this wonderful museum. It has life size ethic tribal houses you can enter and see first had. It displays ethic dress from many communities. Also on display are musical instruments, historical photos, artwork and handicrafts. It is set on a huge area and in the outer grounds as well as the ethic houses are temples and pagodas as well as statues and carvings. We highly recommend a visit here.

we visited the museum to know more about the minorities we saw. There is a good overview, but the information (traditional clothes, houses, work, ..) stops about 20 years ago. Nice to see, but needs a update to the currently situation

It's somewhat out of the way but it was my favorite part of this city. So many fascinating bits of information. I loved getting to walk around their homes and see how people lived, what they wore, what they eat. It was a wonderful experience. Defiantly worth the trip that way.

This museum is constructed and designed well with a lot of areas and unique architectures of different regions in Vietnam (Northwest, Northeast, Tokin, Central, Highlands, South, Mekong delta...) You should come there all days of a week, except for every Monday. It looks like a mini tour around Vietnam so you should bring camera for taking photos.

We visited this museum on our way from Hanoi to Ba Be National Park, and are we glad we did. Admittedly this kind of folk museum appeals to us, but it was such a treat to come across this absorbing and interesting place in an industrial city like Thai Nguyen. Although there is a similar museum now in Hanoi, this one, inspired by Ho Chi Minh himself, was set up much earlier. It is full of lovely examples of ethnic minority costumes, other artefacts from their day-to-day lives and relevant photographs; all just a joy to look at. Perhaps the museum is slightly old-fashioned in its approach, compared to modern European ideas of museums and their exhibits, and although everything is obviously in Vietnamese, there is enough in English to satisfy our curiosity. Outside there are a few examples of ethnic buildings, including an amazing community house with the most startling roof elevation I have ever seen! One exhibit really excited me. We had seen a water puppet show in a farming community near Hanoi and found it riveting. Here in the Museum they had a little pond with some puppets which you could manipulate yourself - hard work I can assure you. If you have time, do visit this Museum for an insight into the lives of Vietnam's numerous ethnic groups.
