Amazing Hidden Gem
Aug 2020 • Couples
We were recommended by our lunch hosts to come here to walk off our meal and what a delight it was. It is around a 5km drive from Waihi Beach through a small area called Bowentown. On arrival there was plenty of parking and a lovely walk up to the top which I realise now I could see from the top of Mount Maunganui.

The vista at the top of Bowentown was amazing, overlooking an island and the Pacific then down into Anzac Bay itself. The photos I took did not justify how beautiful and as my wife said, calming the area was. We walked back down the track onto the white sandy beach and had a paddle in not too chilly water.

I have to say that I would love to come back in early December as the hills were covered in pohutukawa and those trees in bloom against the tranquil setting would be spectacular.

This is an obvious favourite with the local people with kids swimming and fishing and just enjoying their backyard. A must if you are in the area most definitely. Oh and great toilet facilities as well, very clean.

My family and I visited this beach this week. Lovely safe flat beach. Lots of shade and sun. Great parking. Clean toilet facilities. Even a coffee and ice cream van parked up! Worth a visit

Beautiful Calm Waters
Jan 2020
One of the best calm beaches to take the family. Perfect for children as it's so calm it's almost like a lake (but warmer). Not a far walk at all from the car park and even when there are lots of people there, it's still quite easy to find a nice spot to yourselves.

Very beautiful beach. Good for family and kids. Nice and calm water. Almost impossible look at the beach ando don't want to swimm! If you can, take a small tracking in the right side and you will find like a wild beach, just breath take!

Calm swimming waters
Feb 2019
Anzac Bay is a popular place in the summer and the best swimming times are 2 or 3 hours either side of low tide. The water is calm so is suitable for toddlers, little children and school groups. I'm not impressed with the bollards and kerbing that have been put in. It looks good but really? There are still people who do want to be able to park under the ring of Pohutukawa trees, to be sheltered from hot summer sun, and enjoy picnics at the few tables provided. Access to the wee beach could be improved, but there are steps. There are toilets and changing rooms, plus Mr Whippy van with his icecreams in the heart of summer. For the energetic, there is a walk up the hill track from the beach table end to the next bay, but you'll need good shoes for the gravel track.

Nice spot
Jul 2019 • Family
Anzac Bay is sheltered away from the Pacific Surf, being on the inner side of the harbour mouth. You can get a great view of the Bay either from the Pa site on the headland or by heading up the hill behind the beach.

Beautiful bay at the end of the Peninsula
Mar 2019 • Solo
I cycled from Waihi Beach on a hot early Autumn day and Anzac Bay was a pleasant surprise at the end of the peninsula. It was quite busy when I visited but it did not spoil my time there, the views were fantastic and It was possible to find quieter areas to explore. It was the first time in three years of visiting Waihi that I had ventured out to Bowentown and the surrounding area and hopefully it won't be the last.

Wander dogs adventures

We have visited twice now with the Wander Dogs group and it’s just pristine. A range of tracks to get there and nice clean facilities not far away. A real hidden gem.

Sheltered hidden gem
Feb 2019 • Family
Came across this bay last week when the surf at Waihi Beach was too rough to swim. What a beautiful spot with the hills of Bowentown looking down on you.A must visit.

Peaceful
Dec 2018 • Couples
It was quiet in this area when we visited. The Bay is serene with ripples of water from Tauranga Bay as opposed to roller waves on the Pacific side. It is safe to swim in and there is a nice walk with good panoramic views.
