From the moment Doug met us at the airport, our family vacation was wonderful. His wife, Sheri, was a mastermind at planning and scheduling our adventures. She coordinated our vacation with me and my sister-in-law via email several months before our trip, then touched base a couple of weeks beforehand to make sure everything was a go. This was a dream vacation where all we had to do was hop in the van, enjoy the sights, and/or a good restaurant, and/or an exciting adventure, then go back to the villa. The crew at TPV Costa Rica know the locals, and won’t take you anywhere they wouldn’t go themselves. Whether you like zip lining, making your own chocolate from scratch, assisting at a native pottery demonstration, going on a wildlife riverboat tour, lounging on the front of a boat for a sunset and sea creature cruise, or just shopping in the city, you will not be disappointed at the service we received from the staff at TPV Costa Rica. Thank you, Doug, Sheri, and the guys! Our family vacation was definitely one to remember! Even the teenagers loved it!

This company was recommended by the owners of our rental house and based on the signage seems to be the most popular in the Playa Junquillal area. These are private tours. We were very pleased with the service and were able to book and pay online. We selected the wildlife river cruise/pottery and coffee tour.
Our driver Fernando was very engaging and took care to ensure we had both an educational and comfortable experience. He was also a very safe driver and checked in frequently to make certain we were doing ok.
We started off with an early morning pick up at our rental villa and were treated to a convenient breakfast at a local bakery. The drive out to the river cruise went though some dirt roads but gave us a chance to see some local villages. The boat tour itself was excellent and we saw many species of birds, lizards ands a few crocodiles (despite the high tide) and fortunately troops of whiteface and howler monkey.
We had an enjoyable local lunch back at the nearby restaurant.
The pottery stop in Guaitil (why-teel) is home of the Precolombian pottery art form passed down by the local indigenous Chortega people. Everything involved from sourcing and mixing the clay and dyes from the area to using a hand operated wheel and firing the clay with a wood fired kiln, is done as it has been for a thousand years. It was amazing to see the artistry and skill.
Finally we toured a local coffee cooperative and learned a lot about the process of growing and roasting coffee. This facility is operational (though not at the moment we visited) and largely supplies Costco’s Kirkland brand
One gains a huge appreciation of the huge amount of effort that goes into the product and how little of that money gets to the producers growers and pickers. We left with several kilos of coffee bought from the cooperative to bring home.
A long but enjoyable day and done worth using TPV tours. Fernando was fantastic!

A fantastic day cruising down the river and saw lots of animals including crocodiles, monkeys, birds and iguanas. Lunch was fabulous in a local restaurant. Then off to see pottery being made by Andy using 600 year old traditional techniques and ending our day with a great tour of Cafe Diria coffee plantation. Our tour guide, Fernando was incredibly knowledgeable of wildlife and really made our tour a huge success!

Thank you very much for taking the time to write us such a great review. This is by far one of my favorite tours. The lunch is the best, home grown and locally resourced. It is a small family run business, we try very hard to work with "mom and pop" operations, they are the genuine Costa Rica !! Thanks again!!

This was my second time using TPV and would highly recommend. Booking with Doug was very easy and he's super responsive. We did the riverboat and pottery tour. Amazing experience seeing crocodiles, monkeys, and so many iguanas and different species of birds on the river. An incredibly tasty lunch is included after the riverboat and then off to a pottery tour. The person we met with at the pottery place let our two children give it a try and it was one of their highlights of the trip. Incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and talented and he shared his background and how pottery making has been in his family for generations. Overall fantastic value for everything included in the day!
Our guide for the day was Olman and we will definitely request him for our next visit! He was so fantastic throughout all aspects of the day and was great with our kids. Super friendly and answered all of my questions about the area :) He's lived in Playa Junquillal all his life and we felt we were in such good hands all day.
We will be back!!

We look forward to your next trip and maybe next time we can plan out an all-inclusive option, where we can fill your week with the same kind of experiences. Olman could still be your driver!! I love that tour, the food is amazing. I am also very happy that your children had the chance to get their hands dirty with the clay and make a memory as well as some pottery. Thank you for choosing us to be a part of your vacation. And again thank you for taking the time to write us such a great review!

At the price you charge we bottled water in the van would have been nice and breakfast and lunch should have been included. The lunch at Celeste Rios was poor. The tours were expensive for the River Cruise and Celeste Rios.
Also, It only cost us $100 from Nosara back to Liberia in a very clean van, AC and bottled water included.

Ardis,
Some of the tours have meals included and you were made aware of the options prior to booking. The cost of our tours include the actual tour, the transportation and the bi-lingual guide, we feel they are very competitive. The cost to and from Nosara is an apples to oranges comparison. If you took a shuttle back to the airport that is going to be cheaper than a private van and driver.

TPV tours is the company to call for your transfers from either airport in Costa Rica. They are extremely knowledgeable about everything to do in Costa Rica. Doug recommended a very nice restaurant for us and made all arrangements. They also offer the best tours to any area as well as private rides from one person to groups in their vans to where you need to go. If you just want a round trip to a restaurant or into a nearby town for a day call TPV! All drivers speak English, as the owners are Expats.

We have used TPV Costa Rica on two separate trips and would highly recommend their service. They have a wide range of options from simple transportation to multiple day tours to house rentals. A couple weeks ago we took a day tour and did a riverboat cruise where we got to see so many animals and birds, went to a family’s home and saw the pottery making process from beginning to end, and then went to a coffee co-op and learned about the proper way to make coffee in Costa Rica from planting to roasting. Fernando was our tour guide and was so informative and pleasant to spend the day with. He obviously loves his job and his beautiful country and wants to share what he loves about it.

We were recommended TPV by our house manager and reached out to Doug via email about a week before our trip. I told him what activities we were interest in and he got all the tours set up for us. The cost for the activities was very reasonable and payment was super easy. I was impressed so far, little did I know what the experience was about to be. Day 1 was fishing and Fernando picked up at the house and was even early. Dropped us off fishing and the guide told him we would be back at 12. We did not arrive back until 2 and there was Fernando still waiting on us. In a foreign country with a small, very small language barrier he made us feel safe from day 1. We did surf lessons and again Fernadno stayed at the beach and held on to our belongings so we could enjoy the time and not worry about were to put our wallets or clothes. The last tour was amazing! We went zip lining, water sliding, hanging bridges, horseback riding, lunch and ended with a spa. It was such a perfect day for us. Ferdando answered all my 1000 questions and taught us so much about Costa Rica along the way. He was the perfect addition to the services that were provided by TPV. IF you can request a tour guide he comes highly recommended!! Doug, the owner, was super easy to communicate with and truly made this trip unforgettable.

I am glad that you enjoyed your trip to Costa Rica and I am very happy that we were able to help you experience Costa Rica. Fernando is also our source of knowledge when we run into something new in the field. He is always learning and eager to take any additional class or read any book to make sure that he can answer those 1000+ questions. He loves sharing his country !! We are very fortunate to have him as part of our team. Thanks again for your review!

We booked two tours with Doug and Sheri: a riverboat animal cruise and a day-long adventure tour. Sheri mans the office and helped us choose our tours. She is super friendly and drew us a detailed map of all of her favorite restaurants in the area.
Doug, her husband, is an amazing tour guide. He was born in Costa Rica but grew up in the states. He is intimately connected to the local community so not only did we enjoy a top-rate river cruise (we saw monkeys, crocodiles and many different species of bird) but we ate at wonderful cafés and restaurants. He also took us to a talented potter in a town known for its pottery. We bought a beautiful bowl which now sits on our dining room table.
To be honest though, I would have paid Doug just to drive us around and tell stories. He is full of them. We felt completely safe and taken care of the entire time we were with him. He knew the ins and outs of the zip-lining tour and came along on with us tubing down a spectacular gorge.
We had a fantastic time and highly recommend TPV Tours.

We used TPV for transportation while in Playa Junquillal. They were professional and helpful from start to finish! We arranged our experiences via email. They sent extremely detailed and very easy to follow instructions for our airport pickup. Our driver, Fernando, was awesome. He spoke perfect English, was courteous, knowledgeable and so friendly! He took us to a "big" grocery store on the way to our villa and even asked if we needed any help with finding things in the store. We arranged two day trips with TPV during the week, as well as a ride back to the airport. Each time our driver arrived before the scheduled time (which we appreciated!) and provided us with lots of information about the country, local customs, restaurant recommendations and more. We really enjoyed our time with Fernando and would not hesitate to book TVP again. Renting a car would have been a huge, expensive hassle and they made getting around easy and affordable.

I’m coming in January. There’s a tour I’d like to take. It’s offered only on Fridays. How far in advance should I schedule? Making chocolate and shopping!

Hi TPV! I had a few questions about which attraction you can accommodateus for our vacation. First, where is the are we should book a place to stay, and which airport should we fly into? Also here is a list of activities we would like to do while we are there: Volcano climb, white water rafting, whale watching, waterfall hike, and maybe also go to an island to hand out at the beach for a day.... Could you guys help us to book everything, and should we rent a car? Any info is greatly appreciated, and hope to hear from you soon!
Thanks in advance,
Nicole
