About
The water-taxi 'Waihi' is a comfortable purpose built vessel on which to enjoy the magnificent scenery and interesting history. Knowledgable local skippers share their stories of the harbour. The colonial and early contact of the 1800's and Whangaroa's busy days of the 1900s where the economy was based on fishing, boat building and the kauri timber trade. Whangaroa Harbour is hard to beat for pristine scenery. It is a beautiful and uniquely idyllic place. The natural beauty of the area shines through: pure nature in all it's glory. The outer reaches have amazing outcrops and rock formations which tumble into the lush green bush growing right down to the waters edge. There are many beautiful beaches and bays only accessible by water. Be picked up from Lane Cove walking track and be returned to Totara North, Lunch at Kingfish Lodge, or take our 90 minute Discover Whangaroa Harbour Tour.

This was part of our work in-service and so a group of 6 of us went on the trip. Our skipper and the rest of the team were so accommodating and helpful. The skipper was down-to-earth, experienced, and very friendly and knowledgeable. As there was a strong easterly on the day we travelled and he made the call to stay in the harbour, which we were thankful for! The scenery is stunning and the harbour has such a depth of history I fully recommend this to anyone wanting a trip out. Thank you!

It was super easy to book our water taxi ride from Totora North to Lane Cove Hut. Everything was arranged and paid on their website. Confirmation was received instantly. The nice gentleman who picked us up from Totora North Wharf pointed out interesting sights along the ride and also slowed down for us to take photos of Duke's Nose. We had to get our feet wet to get on land upon arrival at Lane Cove Hut but it's not a hassle as our feet dried off quickly while resting at the drop off point.

Whangaroa Harbour Adventures - Houseboat for 2 nights

A wonderful experience in a beautiful harbour in the far North of New Zealand.
We went with 2 other couples to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversaries. We fished and caught some decent scnapper; kayaked and swam off the boat. We anchored d up in 2 sheltered coves overnight and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The landscape is amazing.
The owners were very accommodating and friendly. Thank you.

Walt was really friendly and helpful confirming before we booked that the Wairakau Stream track was open and safe. The service was efficient, on time and friendly. The unspoilt beauty of the volcanic rock viewed from the taxi between Totara North and Lane Cove Hut was spectacular. Fully recommend the water taxi, the route and the hike!

The customer service was exceptional. All our enquires were responded to immediately. We needed to make changes once we had booked and they made that a very easy process. So helpful. The skipper was to notch and so were the owners. And the beauty of the area and the waters were something else!!

This is our third trip with Marcus. He is polite, knowledgeable, on time and has a great boat. We walked the Wairākau stream track to Lane Cove, then up Duke's Head. Then Marcus dropped us back to Tōtara North. Highly recommend

We spent a great couple of hours on the Water taxi with Mark who gave us so much insight into the history of the harbour and present activities. Beautiful scenery, fascinating rock formations and clear waters, Even had a seal to entertain us.
Would recommend a visit.

Whangaroa Harbour is a series of picture postcards. The trip around the harbour shows the varied rock formations both inside and outside of the heads. Mark's commentary on the history of the place is interesting and entertaining. His boat rides well, you stay dry and spend the time wondering how you can get to live in this idyllic place.

This is one of the most beautiful harbours in the North Island and has the advantage that it is quiet and well away from the usual tourist cruises. The tour commentary gives a great background to the area and its history but most importantly takes you to some of the most beautiful secluded bays and then to the narrow entrance to the harbour. A must if you are coming to Whangaroa.

A 1.5 hour boat ride, with just max of 12 people together. Out in the fresh air, riding the calm waters of this sheltered inland natural harbour; go where no roads go! This Whangaroa is a very special place; undiscovered even by many New Zealanders. Crazy rock formations like the Pancakes, the Duke's Nose, the Wedding Cake; 5 arms off harbour leading to private sandy beaches and bays; no houses but one DOC hut for overnights in the utter seclusion of Pekapeka bay; Wow, this is certainly worth while! no fear of sea sickness, the harbour is perfectly sheltered and the captain so considerate.
