Walks from 30 min to 2 hrs. through a scramble of eroded basalt rocks, leading through subtropical rainforest, over 24 wooden structures up to a viewing platform. The Wairere Boulders have been classed as an ONF (Outstanding Natural Feature (worldwide). It is in the New Zealand Geopreservation Inventory classed as: Internationally significant ...... the most accentuated fluting on basalt rock worldwide. Also the Wairere Boulders have been voted best place in Northland by AA voters in 2012.

Was great walking along the well marked tracks, climbing steps etc. Very scenic. Friendly, happy owners. After a couple of hours walking had a lovely coffee and cheezy koru with pannecotta - yum, yum. Will be back to kayak up the stream and then down...More
