Very disappointing

We were not given what was promised and we were overcharged. The guide was terrible. Basically walked us around the Kibbutz which was not what we came for and showed us a promotional film we could have seen at home. A terrible waste of time. Avoid.

Lovely place for coffee and cake
Jan 2020 • Couples
If you’re off the beaten track in Emek HaMaayanot, and want to stop for a coffee and cake, this jewel at Kibbutz Sde Eliahu is the place. Also worth a visit to BioTour.

Impressive operation
May 2019 • Couples
We started with lunch. Seems like every item was deep fried but it was fine. Then we met our guide Mark who was very knowledgeable and showed us a number of operations on the kibbutz. Then he told us the story of BioBee and it was fascinating. Worth a few hours of your time.

Very educational and a brilliant example of 'thinking outside the box'
Apr 2019 • Family
We visited as a family group of 13 of various ages and loved it. Tour guide Sarah was very informative and captured us all from explaining the history of the kibbutz to explaining how the bugs farmed on the kibbutz enable farmers to stop using chemical pesticides, so fascinating. As we visited during Passover we fed the organic donkey weeders Matzah! The food was delicious and a wide variety. A really special kibbutz!

Incredibly interesting and fun

Sde Eliyahu is a large kibbutz south of the Kinneret. They have organic farms and they specialize in producing biobees, bumble bees that work much harder and longer than honeybees when it comes to pollination; and bioflies, a variety of natural predators of pests that destroy crops. In addition, the kibbutz makes use of other natural predators such as barn owls and kestrels to rid them of rodents. Emunah, our guide, was an incredible person herself, having converted to Judaism and moved to Israel from China! She was a wealth of information and she was patient with my incessant picture taking and video taping. We got to purchase some of the products of Sde Eliyahu in their shop after the tour and taste some of their dates. Highly recommend!

For anyone who has even a mild interest in agriculture, farming, or ranching. We loved it!

Even though our time was very limited, I loved this part of our trip to Israel. Israel is one of the top agricultural producing countries on earth, and it's no wonder when you learn about some of the techniques being employed at this kibbutz. This tour provides information not only on farming, but also on kibbutz life, which is a rich part of Israel's history.

Sde Eliyahu is a leader in using beneficial insects to treat pests, rather than toxic pesticides. They also provide nesting boxes for hawks, who take up residence on their farm and kill rodents who would otherwise destroy crops. These are just a few of the innovative techniques this farm is using to grow clean food. Our guide, Steve, originally from Boston, was wonderful. Funny, personable, knowledgeable and passionate about he does. Well worth the small entry fee, and plan on a few hours here to get the full experience. I would definitely do this again. Also, save time for the gift shop where you can buy spices and other produce grown on site!
