Unlike Knossos, this is unhurried and not over-dressed. The Romanised theatre is a gem - stand in the centre and speak. Your voice fills the air because of the perfect acoustics. The massive cisterns, little monastery and tremendous views all add to a memorable experience....More

There is a wealth of historical remains here at Ancient Aptera, covering quite a large area. The highlight for us was the amphitheatre but we were also intrigued to see the triple cistern which is well preserved. And the views over Souda Bay are wonderful.

Ancient ruins, the most abundant amphitheater and some ruins of the fortress have survived in the original, while the view is beautiful and worth a visit. Historically, the ticket price is 2 euros and is open from 8 am to 15 pm
