This is one of the best tours of a mine I have ever experienced. From what I understood, this mine was closed and then converted into a museum. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and we were able to tour all areas. I came away with a good understanding of both the history of mining in the region as well as how a mine works. Very well done!

If you are in Mineral Del Monte is very likely you are in for the mines and mining tradition, hence, "La Dificultad" is one of your top destinations.

The museum works with a local tour. I don't know if they have them available in English. The tour is a bit slow for my taste, but very informative. The thing is that, if you are doing other mines or mining highlights, the information will likely become repetitive.

This is a tour in which you don't get to go into the mine itself. All you can see are some tunnel entrance and the main shaft that goes hundreds of meters into the ground.

There is some sort of parking place inside. I wish I had known this beforehand.

Enjoy!

Well worth a visit when in Mineral del Monte. Good explanation (in Spanish). Also visit the nearby Acosta mine

Neat Mining Museum partly operational and under restoration with guided tours (in Spanish). Closed in 2005 this mine has most elements still in place (other than the steam boiler). If you combine with a trip with a tour of the nearby Ancosh Mine you'll also see the mine shaft up close. The winding gear is a real treat and worth the 40 peso entrance fee alone.
