Not very well kept but worth a quick tour

This cemetery is very poorly kept, despite its historic significance to the region. Parking is 30 pesos. There was someone asking for a “donation for upkeep” at the entrance. We did not find this a worthwhile experience.

Amazing British Isles Churchyard in the mountains of Mexico

Mexico needed skilled miners for its silver and men and their families from Cornwall in the south of England came over to work them. When they died they were buried in a traditional village cemetery park. The is a little difficulty to get there but worth any effort. It is beautifully maintained and cared for with many monuments and statues of high Victorian art. A registry of the burials is kept on a map inside along with a graphic of the many grave placements. I found several of my family name from Wales. I was enchanted by the quiet pathways overhung by towering trees to see the history slipping way from us under a carpet of green.

Fantastic and mystical place

If you have decided to go to Mineral del Monte, the English Graveyard is a must.

Please make an effort to hire a local guide, preferably look for Sir Chencho's daughter, her stories and knowledge of the place are outstanding, she is the current graveyard keeper.

The mix between cultures, religions, cults, groups and homogeneity between heterogeneity is amazing, but you will not get this without the dedicated explanation.

The place is small, but it will take you a good hour to go through.

The access requires a small 200 meter walk on cobblestones.

Enjoy!

small but interesting

I thought it was peaceful, although some people say it is very creepy. All the tombs are facing towards England, except one that belonged to Richard Bell, who some say was the famed clown, but in reality, that clown died in NY, so this Richard Bell might be a miner.

Must visit in Real del Monte

Is one of the places you must visit. Arrive as early as possible. The guide is very nice and you just have to pay a voluntary fee.
