It’s a small lake, its still surface water serves like mirror. Follow the walking trail around the lake, look around you and then look at the water to view the mirror image of your environment. It truly is a beautiful example of an Andean lake. There’s a small eatery on one corner of the lake, stop by and enjoy a lunch of traditional Ecuadorian pollo asado. Pair this visit with El Chorro.

Good place to do camping and spend the time in the nature. You can fish, camp, walk and many others. Really cheap.

My perspective is that of a foreign tourist doing a guided day trip from Cuenca. It is a pleasant place to take a walk around the perimeter of the laguna, some on unpaved pathways and some on elevated boardwalks. For us, it wouldn't have been satisfying as the one and only reason to travel from Cuenca, but we combined it with visits to El Chorro Falls and the Giron area. My impression is that they are trying to attract families on outings from nearby towns. There is a cafeteria, play areas for kids, and camp sites. There is trout fishing. No swimming allowed. We ate a picnic lunch here, supplemented with snacks from the cafeteria.

A very pretty lake with a walking path around the lake. The birds, flora and fauna make this a great stop. There are cabins for rent and a restaurant that provides good food at reasonable prices.

We drove from Cuenca to Laguna Busa (the lake) for an easy outing at an elevation of about 7,000 feet. Laguna de Busa is the town nearest the lake. Public transportation will get you that far, but then you have to walk uphill for a few kilometers to get to the lake. If you have a car, you can drive all the way to the lake. There's a fee of 50 cents US per person to enter the parking area. It's an easy walk around the lake, partly on a boardwalk and partly on a trail. It's certainly appropriate for families. We encountered people fishing from the boardwalk; there were llamas under the boardwalk to watch. The views are pretty. After our walk, we stopped at Mario's Restaurant on the shore of the lake for coffee and a snack of humitas, which is the Ecuadorean version of a tamal. Delicious! Mario invited us back to the kitchen to meet his wife and learn how humitas are made. Mario speaks some English so my traveling companion was able to paticipate in our conversation. It was a very enjoyable outing.
