    Another great wine tasting.
Took some of our oldest friends with us to visit Robert Stein Winery, as we had such a great time last time. We had another memorable visit. Our great host Jeff was the perfect balance of information, suggestions and leaving us to enjoy and chat. Monty the dog is pretty special too. We will definitely be back next time we come over from the Hunter Valley. Thank you.

This place should be number one on your Mudgee list
We always visit this winery every time we go to Mudgee (we visited again last weekend - our 6th visit). The place is getting better and better. The wines are still superb. The wine tasting was now done in a special space (no longer just in that small "office" building). Their customer service was excellent. On top of that, we also got some charcuterie to take home (the truffle salami was divine).

Foot crush and wine tasting 😁
My partner and I did the foot crush event again this year and loved it as much as we did last year, it's become our annual weekend away, not that we need an excuse to visit the winery, the staff are so friendly and always go above and beyond for you, we absolutely love Anita! She always remembers us and makes us feel so welcome like it's our second home 😊 the wine is amazing too! Definitely need to visit when in Mudgee 😁 looking forward to our next trip soon!
Hey O5601LSamandaw, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review! We're so glad you enjoy our footcrushing events and we look forward to seeing you next year - We're sure you'll see Anita then :)

    Exceelent Wine Tasting Experience
Our group of 5 had an excellent wine tasting experience on Sunday 10 March. Geoff (not sure if I have the correct spelling of Geoff/Jeff), was excellent. He was very attentive, informative and professional. Afterwards we all enjoyed a great lunch at the Pipeclay Pumphouse restaurant. We all purchased wines on our way out to enjoy at a later date. The whole day was fantastic and we will return when we are next in Mudgee. Thanks to all the staff for making this a great day.
Hey Allralph, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback, and we are so glad you had a great experience with us! We look forward to seeing you again soon.

    Fabulous Foot Crush!!
We had so much fun at the foot crush. We arrived a little early and were met with a delicious glass of sparkling and got to enjoy a wander through the motorbike museum whilst we waited for the other participants to arrive. We enjoyed learning a bit more about the farm and vineyards before heading into the cellar and stomping area! The large charcuterie platter and accompanying wines was great, and even though we hadn’t booked a wine tasting afterwards, the team managed to squeeze us in where we really enjoyed the wines and a sneaky slice of pecan pie! Thanks for a memorable afternoon!!
Hey Case1, So glad you got the chance to enjoy footcrushing with us! We hope you can make it again next time, and make sure you finish the day with a sweet treat :)

    Friendliest staff around
Amazing! Service was great and a staff member watched our 14 kids while we did the wine tasting. Dave and monte (the dogs) were also a highlight of the stop. Dave loves a good selfie
So Glad you had such a great time Elissa, and thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice review for our small family business! We look forward to seeing you and the kids again soon!

ROBERT STEINS - A GREAT SPOT TO TOP UP YOUR CELLAR AND GRAB LUNCH
A fabulous spot with a magnificent view over the Mudgee bowl landscape with wines and food to match. We enjoyed the $50 Charcuterie board with some of a bottle of their beautiful Rose, a rose with attitude. Our host Geoff gave us all the right advice and we were completely satisfied with our choices. Their small goods are all made in house and the presentation was perfect. Thoroughly recommend our choices and thanks again Geoff.. Bob and Sandy Bilgolabands
So glad you had a great and tasty time visiting us at our cellar door! We will hopefully see you again soon!

    Rustic country fare
Our group of eight visited RSW last weekend celebrating a number of birthdays. We had the farm to table lunch on one of two tables of ten. The food was rustic country fare, tasty and plentiful. The menu was well put together and beautifully complemented the wine tastings. I can highly recommend this venue. Jacob came and spoke to us and his staff were excellent in timing the tastings and the information about each wine.
So glad you had a magical time at our cellar door, we really loved hosting you and your friends for the birthday celebrations! We hope to see you all again soon!

Went to this winery with high expectations and some excitement. On arrival we were informed that there was a charge for wine tasting ranging from $10 to $40. I was taken aback by that and when I queried was asked if I would go into a pub and try beers for free. I was offended by this and left straight away. The charge would have been reimbursed after a purchase of $100 or more. Very disappointed in my whole experience

Hi Tony, Firstly we'd like to apologise that your experience at Robert Stein didn't live up to your expectations. We have reopened finally after a very hard recent history through years of drought, 2020 bushfires & smoke and now the Covid-19 pandemic, which sees us operating on limited numbers and with extra charges incurred through stringent cleaning processes, disposable utensils & extra staff. As you can imagine, due to these costs incurred, we've had to implement tasting charges to cover this & ensure the guests who visit us are viable customers - much like restaurants charging up front to secure bookings or only offering set menu choices at the moment. Our $10 charge is a nominal fee to run through a wide range of our wines and is redeemable on purchases over $100. The $20 and $40 charge is only for people who wish to taste our reserve range of wines, many which are usually unavailable to taste and the $40 option also includes a charcuterie boat per person. We understand the more expensive tasting options are not for every guest, but it offers an elite wine tasting & food experience to the people who wish to take advantage of this option. We understand that many people are used to not being charged for tastings, however we've taken this action as a necessary step forward to survive this crisis and we'd like to thank all our guests who have been so supportive through this time. As far as we're aware, implementing tasting charges has been a pretty uniform response across Mudgee to survive through these hardships. As with any new procedure, our staff member was only trying to inquire as to your feedback with what you didn't like or appreciate about the tasting fee, in order to take that back to management as critical feedback, hence his question about comparing to a pub experience. We're very sorry you felt it was an inappropriate question to ask. We thank you for your feedback and apologise sincerely that you felt our $10 charge, which is redeemable on purchases over $100, was too steep to try our range of award winning wines. We do hope you will reconsider and we can welcome you again soon to exceed your expectations.

We discovered Robert Stein wine at a local restaurant and fell in love with their 2018 Shiraz. The wine tasting tour is inside an old cella, full of barrels, the history of winemaking, and the people behind it.

The wine tasting experience felt impersonal and finished in a dash.

Out of all the wineries we’ve been to, Robert Stein is the most expensive. Free wine tasting is redeemable if you purchase over $100 per person.

We visited Stein’s yesterday and bought $300 worth of wine.
We were then charged a further $120 for the tasting which would have amounted to less than 2 glasses of wine.
First time anywhere in the world I have experienced a winery charging for a tasting when we have bought wine at the end.

Went for dinner Friday night then back here for tasting first thing on Saturday, walk-in without a booking. A great experience and we were looked after by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Some very good wines here. In all honesty, I think the requirement to buy $100 of wine to get your $10 tasing fee refunded is a bit steep, but does seem to becoming the norm these days. And, that said, I did come away with well over $100 of purchases. Definitely worth a visit.

Casual setting and very friendly service. Really enjoyed the wines: the sparkling chardonnay pinot noir, the gewurtztraminer, the sparkling shiraz and the 2018 shiraz and cab savs were our favourites. If you like dessert wines both their rum tawny and harvest gold are incredible. This winery is the home of Pipeclay Pumphouse restaurant which we would have loved to try but fully booked (lesson learnt to call very much in advance).
Highly recommended!

On a recent visit to Mudgee we decided to do some Cellar Door wine tastings even though we are very amateur with our wine knowledge. Our experience at Robert Stein’s was a perfect fit for us.
With the assistance of two very helpful staff, Renee and Aimee, we were taken through a few styles and very quickly the ladies directed us along the line of our style preference without going overboard with the detailed reasons why we “should like” particular styles.
In this very informal and enjoyable atmosphere we found some beautiful wines and absolutely enjoyed the experience.

Arriving late from Sydney we thought we’d visit Robert Stein’s vineyard before it closed. We had 40 minutes. When we arrived, it appeared busy but we found a socially distanced table for the two of us. Stuart took charge and set out the various tasting options. He couldn’t have been more welcoming. My husband and I chose different tasting options and the relaxed approach to providing the different ranges was fantastic. Stuart also provided excellent commentary on where to visit the next day and which vineyards most closely matched our tastes. We were the last to leave given the lateness of our arrival but we never felt rushed to leave. Renee also provided excellent support to Stuart and we felt like the team had our best interests at heart. We recommend anyone to visit this wonderful vineyard. Five star !!!

A lovely set of wines to taste in a lovely setting. Eamonn was our host and he explained each wine in a friendly and unpretentious way. You can choose to sample 6 of their many wines for the $10 tasting charge (which is waived if you then purchase $100 of wine), which means there is more flexibility here than I experienced at the tasting at the other vineyard we visited.

Recommend also ordering a $10 charcuterie plate containing local produce to go along with the tasting - their spicy relish was fantastic (and can also be purchased).

Can't go wrong having a tasting at this vineyard.

What was stand out was how organised and welcoming staff were in these of times of COVID. Other wineries we visited seemed overwhelmed and distracted. Lovely setting and great table service with comprehensive tasting options and commentary. This was our 2nd visit and we can honestly say pretty much every wine we tasted is a winner. Our server was very engaging and flexible with the wines we wanted to try.

Our only feedback is that the members club is too rigid and should enable customers to make their own selection as other wineries do. Once you find wines you know you like then its frustrating not to be able to select them. Other than that a great winery and tasting experience. Thankyou.

A recent visit to Mudgee wouldn't be complete without a visit to the wineries and Robert Stein Winery was the perfect start to the getaway. Conveniently located within a short drive from the heart of Mudgee this winery was perfect for some sampling of Mudgee's finest. Hosts were terrific especially Anita who was so friendly and helpful. Recommend ordering the platter which was all locally produced and complimented the wines perfectly. A pleasant comfortable experience for anyone deciding on which wineries to visit in Mudgee.
