We came here for a few hours when visiting family recently. It is a lovely house, set in vast grounds. The house is self guided, with cards in each room telling you a little more about the property and the furniture inside. There are also staff dotted around who are more than happy to answer any questions. Every now and... More

Very lovely day looking around and learning all about the history of the place. Very knowledgeable guide, especially on the second floor of the house. Adrian knew it all.

Another beautiful National Trust property. Well presented interiors but the highlight was the art exhibit of royal portraits on the upper floors. The almost obligatory tea and cake was much appreciated on a hot day. The outside space is also wonderfully kept.

We visited the house and gardens which were beautiful. The house was seeped in history and had an exhibition of art on the top floor. We stopped for tea and cake in the tea room which was disappointing as the cake was dried out. This place was beautiful on the sunny day when we visited.

Very interesting if you take the tour -- best on a fine day. If you are a National Trust member very good value, but could be expensive otherwise.

Visited for the first time on a sunny day in August . We joined an outside tour which was very interesting and informative , (I strongly recommend doing a tour whenever possible). The inside houses art from the National Portrait Gallery and quite a lot of activities for children . Outside there is plenty of space for picnics and running... More

I love the National Trust. Not only do they maintain our heritage, but they make it accessible and interesting for us, the general public. Montacute House is no exception. The gardens are fantastic - do take the free guided tour of the gardens and the outside of the house - the guides are wonderfully informed, can tell a wonderful story,... More

This national trust property is wonderful. We had a 40 minute tour of the outside where so much information was given to us. Then strolled around the house and gardens after. Thank goodness we have these amazing properties.

Loved it. Worth a detour, worth a special trip. You'll recognise so many rooms from TV and films. Don't miss the 'touching exhibit' of the Tudor outfits. Made using modern fabrics that are as close as possible to the patterns and textures of the originals and being a 'touching exhibit' you can explore the layers, etc. When we were there... More
