Great place to spend an hour shopping for local ceramics. Make sure to check the time before you go - we arrived at 1pm, when most shops were closed for lunch and it was a ghost town. Stores don't reopen until 3pm or so. Not much else to do/eat/explore in town.

A stop in Grottaglie is a must if you love ceramics. I visited on a Sunday which was not ideal - probably half the stores were closed (but that means half were open :) - but it was still a wonderful way to spend a few hours if you love ceramics like I do. Sure, many of the pieces look the same in the different shops but you will also find unique pieces as well as a range in quality. Grottaglie is not Deruta but in its own right, it is the ceramics capital of Puglia and easy to access. For me, Cretaglie Ceramiche at the Piazza Santa Sofia was the best. PS - there is a wonderful bar just on the other side of the arch leading to the city center where patient husbands can wait.

If you are lucky enough to be visiting Puglia and love ceramics this is a must stop.
I had the pleasure of visiting Stefano Monteforte's shop and never wanted to leave. His work was so very beautiful. I wanted to buy everything but settled on a lovely brightly colored olive oil dispenser. I collect ceramics from all over Italy and this is one of my favorite's. Grazie Signor Monteforte!
I highly recommend a visit to this lovely town for a truly authentic Italian experience.

We were coming back from Salento when we decided to stop there. Lots of shops selling amazing ceramics. Some of those very expensive. Very pleasant afternoon there!

Well worth a visit to Grottaglie, a walk around the ceramic quarter. I highly recommend!
Make sure you go either in the morning or after 4.30/5pm as they do close for a lunch break. If you do buy some ceramics they'll be able to ship abroad too...worth looking into now that we all have low baggage allowances.

Great place for buying authentic ceramics.
I would really recommend Nicola Fasano at via F. Crispi 6 an absolutely amazing manufacturer we got a little private factory tour by the owner who is delivering their artwork all over the world. Compared to the stores and boutiques back home which sell this brand as well, you have a much better price and a huge selection. definitely worth a visit!

Renowned village specialized in hand painted and decorated ceramic pieces. All the shops are in one area so it’s easy to visit them all. Although they all appear to have similar items, look carefully and you’ll notice small differences among the different shops. Custom orders are welcome.

We visited this area while staying at a local Masseria in early July and went to Enza Fasano's workshop on a recommendation. Somehow, time disappeared and 2 hours were spent in the many underground rooms filled with the beautiful vibrant ceramics... So hard to choose!

We ended up having a large lamp, some plates and serving ware and jugs, as well as a couple of small decorative items, shipped to us in Australia. The lovely girl (daughter?)in the shop spoke english and contacted the freighter (FedEX) for a quote before we bought. She told us two weeks, and exactly two weeks later (and three days after arriving home from Italy) two much padded boxes arrived with every piece of pottery intact.

I just love using my beautiful ceramics and remembering Italy!

If you like brightly-colouredl ceramics and pottery, this is a very worthwhile place to visit. Over a dozen shops sell locally-produced handmade plates, cups, saucers and decorative items, all having vibrant designs and patterns. One piece of advice is to look in all the shops before making a purchase as prices and quality of goods vary considerably. Most vendors do not speak much English, so it helps to take a English-Italian phrasebook or dictionary with you.
