During our 7-day stay at Sappada, we got an opportunity to explore many adjoining areas. One of the places was Lago di Calalzo (Lake of Calalzo). The lake is 12 kilometers (7 mi) long. Calalzo lies within the Cadore Dolomites. These are a range of limestone mountains in northeastern Italy. Calalzo, meaning “high place”, is situated at a height of 806 m (2,644 ft). At this peak point, we got a splendid panoramic view of the area and found one of the most beautiful and enchanting territories in Italy, having distinct characteristics both from the geological point of view and from the historical point of view. We went to different levels where we had magnificent views of the lake and area. However, there were no refreshment points around the lake thus making it necessary to take some snacks and drinks along with especially for accompanying children.

we went to walk with an uncle who lives in Calalzo di Cadore....he took us up into the area...up and up we went to different levels where we had magnificent views of the lake and area . On top we encontoured a wonderful little pond where the spring water was running into.
The only downside for 3 day we where there it was overcast and raining at times.

This is a free entry mini park to one side of the lake, with its entry close to the train station. The archaeological site is what (little) remains of roman era thermal baths (think tepid, not hot, water) and untouched woodland. It can be thoroughly explored in an hour, with options to extend this with a walk around the lake if you have the time and energy.
