We have been meaning to visit this village for a long time as it is in our voividship.

The small painted buildings are very attractive and the interiors beautifully decorated. There is a video in the barn that shows the annual competition held eveey year for the best paintings.

The only disappointment was there were not that many houses to see (and not possible to enter during Covid-19), which is strange given that it attracts visitors and so revenue to the village.

Try to visit Kielce if you can - the voivodeship capital.

Experience one of its kind really. The painted houses of Zalipie have much to offer if you give it enough credit and stay for a few hours. The museum, church, farms, even dog kennels are painted with local motives. That makes this place amazing, unique and a very pleasant experience at the same time.

You will be able to get into some of the houses as well, some of them are painted inside. Ever seen a flowery hand-painted bathroom? Say longer, look around, talk to the people and they will let you peek inside.

Highly recommended as a day trip from Krakow.

We had a nice visit to the area and were positively surprised of how genuin the atmosphere was in this working farm area, no tourist trap at all ! There were about 20 flower pained houses houses/farms with different amounts of decorations made to them, some walls, some doors, wells, kennels, and even tree trunks, some even complete houses, some were old and some were more modern. It is the work of hard working women that do it out of love for the tradition of the area. You have to drive around and look for them and each place you find feels like a wonderful surprise ! Many of the owners invited us in to look around totally for free, proud of what they have, we loved it !

I went there by bus and it was definitely possible. From Krakow you have to go to Tarnów then to Dąbrowa and then to zalipie. Once there you need to walk a but but it's all very doable in an one day trip. Not all the houses are painted but in the museum you can get a map to see which are and it's a pleasant walk. The museum is very small but it costs only 6zl and it's worth a visit, it gives a lot of inside on the history of the place. And the lady selling tickets there is super nice. There is no restaurant or anything like that so better take your food.

A meandering self guided tour using the map provided at the Felicja Curylo Household Museum where you are able to stop and photograph houses, barns and scenery. The museum was a delight, reflecting a country woman's desire to brighten her home with unique and colorful folk art. Getting to Zalipie can be a big challenge but I used the following GPS coordinates with no problem : Latitude N 50.2292889 Longitude E 20.860725

In Zalipie when people still used stoves that produced smoke, they began whitewashing their interior walls of their homes to cover up the sooty walls. In the early 1900's when a stove with a chimney became the norm, a new form of decoration arose. The women began to paint flower motifs, at first just using white, black and beige. Soon more talented painters began to produce more elaborate designs. By the 1930's girls from this area were invited to folk art shows in Krakow and wealthy people were commissioning these artists. Soon the designs became multicolored and expanded from flowers to all forms of plants and birds. Since the 1960's competitions have been held annually. Homes, wells, dog houses, painted ceramics and costumes and fabrics and paper cut-outs. In Zalipie there is a museum farm which even teaches classes in this type of painting. Each year artists vie to win the prize for the best Painted Cottage. This village is so beautiful - definitely an attraction not to miss!

Zalipe is a very interesting village with wooden houses painted traditionally by local artists.

People in the countryside used to cook on stoves from which smoke escaped though a hole in the ceiling. Women whitened the smoke-darkened rooms spotting the sooty ceiling and walls with whitewash. At the turn of the century and modern stoves, the procedure of ornamentation became the inspiration of a new interior decoration. Instead of spots, women began to paint flower motifs on walls and on paper. This talent led to folk art painting competitions and to this day there is an annual competition immediately following Corpus Christi.

There is a museum farm and a delightful village full of painted houses, barns and everything you can imagine. We were lucky enough to find a woman in the process of painting her barn with bright colored flowers!

This town is located northwest of Dabrowa Tarnowska and well worth the visit! The pottery in the museum is beautiful and are great gifts or to keep for yourself.

Wit the descriptions of Zalipie, You would expect a village full of painted houses. Unfortunately amongst a village of 50 houses hardly 8 of them are painted and only 1 fully with flowers. Others just have a patch on some side. There is no public transport to reach this place as well, no restaurants or cafes.

We saw pictures from Zalipie and really wanted to see it. It takes about an hour drive from Kraków, there is nothing else interesting on the way. When we got there we were kind of disappointed as there are only cca 5-6 painted houses scattered around the village.

We walked around (cca 5 km) - the ordinary village is not really worth seeing apart from museum and those 5 painted little houses that are really special.

There is a sign saying "zwiedzanie, pamiatki" - do not walk there, it is not worth the walk. You can find newly build house, some flower paintings on it and they probably sell souvenirs there :-)

The painted village is lovely. The houses are very cute and it's really interesting to see them.
However, the village is sort of in the middle of nowhere, and you need to drive around in order to admire it all. Not every house is painted, but a lot are. I was disappointed to learn this, and to find out the lack of "activities" in the area.
Some homeowners are friendly and will let you in to see the interior of their homes!

The museum is great, however information in English is limited. We had a lady with some English do a mini tour for us, and we translated what she was unable to say to our English friends.

Personally, I loved it. But, it's definitely not for everyone, and it's not the most easy to get to.

The photos- it's worth going for them, because the village is truly cute.
