A rather unique village in the Holy Cross voivodeship
Aug 2020 • Family
We have been meaning to visit this village for a long time as it is in our voividship.

The small painted buildings are very attractive and the interiors beautifully decorated. There is a video in the barn that shows the annual competition held eveey year for the best paintings.

The only disappointment was there were not that many houses to see (and not possible to enter during Covid-19), which is strange given that it attracts visitors and so revenue to the village.

Try to visit Kielce if you can - the voivodeship capital.

Something different - off the beaten path!
Oct 2019
Because we were traveling from Krakow to Warsaw in a rental car we decided to visit the salt mine and then spend the night at the Hotel Cristal Park, which is just 15 minutes from Zalipie (pronounced Za-LEEP-ia) and on the way, to Warsaw on the back roads. It was a relaxing departure from the cathedrals and castles that are usually part of a trip to Europe. The Homestead of Felicja Curylowa is a wonderful experience. Two other homes, also great examples of the painted houses, were moved there so it was easy to see the interiors. An English speaking young woman took us through the homes and explained the history of the houses. After we visited all three, we drove down side streets aimlessly, hoping to find other painted houses. They dotted the countryside and were lovely. I would suggest asking for a map of the painted houses location. I did not think to do it and someone has provided a photo of a map on this site if you scroll through the photos. I loved the gardens, fences, and flowers that dot the countryside. We spent about 90 minutes here and then continued on our way to Warsaw. It was well worth the diversion for me. My husband enjoyed the stop as much as I did.

Loved these houses
Mar 2019 • Friends
We were able to get an English guide to check out the two houses you can enter that are part of this 'museum'. The houses were really neat and the story of Felicja was interesting. There were a few items for sale that made for great and inexpensive gifts. Overall, this is an out of the way are and it there is not really a village full of painted houses (they are scattered here and there) but this museum was the absolute highlight.

A Fun Place To Visit
Sep 2018 • Couples
Although it is a little off the beaten path, we went to see the painted houses. We headed to the homestead of Felicia Curylowa first only to discover it was closed for renovations. But the house across the street from it was painted so we took some photos and then drove on, meandering along the roads with no set plan, hoping to see more painted houses.
As others have mentioned, not all the houses in this village are painted, but we found quite a few and stopped for photos at each one. At one house, the woman living there motioned for us to come inside, and although she spoke no English, she gave us a tour of her home, gave us some tea and a snack, and dressed us up in some up her decorate hats and aprons for a photo. She was really friendly, but of course she wanted us to purchase some of the painted souvenirs she was selling. We felt obligated to purchase something, so bought a small vase and a bell. If you look up Zalipie on Utube, you will find videos of this old woman, wearing a flowered beret and entertaining visitors just like she did for us.
We continued driving around the village and spotted a few more houses, then went to the visitors center where women demonstrate the painting techniques. We drove to the church and enjoyed that very much.
I definitely liked it more than my husband, but it was a fun, unique place to visit.

House of painters
Sep 2018
I found information about this little village on Facebook and it caught my attention. It was not far away from my family house so I went to see it. It was very interesting trip. People there were very nice; they showed us everything they could. There is several interesting painted houses. We could get inside and touch everything, see everything. It is different than other popular places. There is no fee to see it. I enjoyed it very much.

Don't expect to find the entire village to be painted
May 2018 • Friends
Our Poland tour stopped by this homestead during our two week Galicia trip in mid-May. Saw an article about the village a few months prior and along with a few others on the tour; recommended including it if possible. Not sure is we traveled very far out of the way, but it was not a village full of painted houses. This house is worthy of a visit if in the area, but don't expect dozens of houses sto be painted like this one. We happen to arrive about an hour after a bus load of Japanese tourist and there was not much left to purchase as gifts.

We took a private day tour booked through ToursByLocals. The houses were amazing. We also went into the church and the painters cent. We went into 3 homes. The women were selling souvenirs of stuff they painted. They were all so proud of their work, we bought from them all. Lovely village and our guide was excellent!

One of a kind!

This small village is truly amazing! plenty of houses hand painted, beautifully decorated. The housewives who did this are incredible. The houses are not next to each other so you should just wonder around the village to see them

Wow what a Village - stunning
Aug 2017 • Couples
The drive to the village from Krakow is a little long but truly worth it.
The painting is so fine and well done.
If ever in Poland and in the region of this village take the time to visit.
You will be one of a few outsiders/tourists to do so.
