About

The very old abbey church olds some secrets. There are wonderful roman mosaics to be seen behind the altar as it was built over a roman villa. The old Roman baths and further mosaics are to be found in the Prior's house which is still, unfortunately, not open to the public. The guided tours are well thought out and presented by knowledgeable guides. Apparently over a ton of salmon used to caught ever year in the days of the monks. Now only just over 1,600 salmon made it up the river in 2016. The history of this place is in line with all former historical events.

The place is really beautiful, and it's best to go on the guided tour which takes you down below to the tunnels. The problem is the lack of English by the guide (which seemed very competent) and the staff. We are from Denmark, and we are of course not expecting that people are speaking Danish, but are we really the only not-French people to visit this place?

Still a must see in this area.

Hello, and thank you for this review so nice for our place. Yes, it's true, we have lack of english... but as we work to that ! Usually the tour is only in french with english's paper guide. That day, our guide make the tour in english especially for you. Sincerely apologize for not meeting yours expectations. We hope to see you again in better conditions.

we did not go on the guided tour because we would have had to wait nearly 1 hour for it to start so we decided to visit the site on our won. little left to see and the modern exhibition inside the building was a poor choice for the site.
