A taxi from central Shijiazhaung to Zhengding will cost around 30RMB, if you can convince them to use their taxi metre (female drivers always fairer). Going to Zhengding you will cross a massive river, but won't leave Shijiazhuang's urban sprawl. Zhengding is a walled city, though much of the walls are in ruins. The city is huge! Imagine walls six miles long. The enclosed area is massive. A good walking route starts from the East Gate to the South Gate. Try to get a map or a photo of a map on your phone. The area nearer the south gate is nicest, though the largest and best temples are in the east. I'd recommend: 1. Ruined east gate drop off. 2. Longxing Temple (large attractive temple with two huge statues, photos ok). 3. Tianning Temple (large stone pagoda temple). 4. Kaiyuan Temple (nice stone pagoda and the must-not-miss largest stone stelae in China). 5. Linji Temple (narrow stone pagoda). 6. South city gate (attractive street running north-south). The two huge statues in Longxing should not be missed, nor the 100+ tonne stone stelae guardian. A taxi back from the south city gate to Shijiazhuang isn't hard to organise. I didn't see many other foreigners here.

I took two buses, 96 and 164, from Shijiazhuang, an easy journey as long as you count the number of bus stops carefully so that you change bus in the right place. The second bus, the 164, drops you right outside the temple compound. I have visited many temples and gardens in China but ZhengdIng still had a lot to offer. There were two places in the grounds that stood out. One was the statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin, with its amazing height and numerous arms., from the Northern Song Dynasty, I believe. The Rose garden was in full bloom when I visited in April and the scent was wonderful. I did not allow nearly enough time for my visit to Zhengding so I only saw one of the pagodas. I would suggest a full afternoon or morning is necessary. The 164 returns from the same stop that you get off at. It does a sort of circular route around this part of the town.

zhe scence of it is pretty well, it's full of ancient flavor. But one thing I feel uncomfortable is that zhe people there have a bad awareness of traffic safety, especially the the man who is on a mountain bike. So keep aware of them. Wish you have a good trip~~~~~
